MdVegan and others in the boondocks- ordering stuff off-line

MDvegan, you have mentioned vegan essentials in the past. I was looking around at their website and didn't find anything about delivery charge. How much do you find you have to order to "make it worth it." Do you order a bunch of stuff all at once or a thing or two every now and then? Also, the things that are supposed to be cold- I saw they sell little refrigerator packs. If you really, really live int eh boonies, you know mail gets there more slowly. Do you find your stuff arrives at your house cool still?

What other places can I order things off line? Book Mama once posted a link to some place where you can order bulk things? I may need that because we/we've had a hard time finding simple things like BEANS at the store up there in the past. And beans are a huge part of my diet.

I'm moving to Maine, it looks like (how many times have I said I was moving to some remote state now) and the nearest GROCERY STORE is like 45 minuets down the highway.  :( nice because I miss thecountry, sad because there are no health food stores. Every few months my dad and bro go down to Manchester NH for a comic book convention,s o I can catch a ride with them and I bet they have a healthfood store there. Plus, I'll get to checkout the Indigo cafe!!!! Doesn't someone on here work there?

Hey VHZ!

I've ordered from veganessentials before.  There are delivery charges.  Once you place all of your items in the basket it will give you shipping options (ie: how fast you want it there).  I know I had my stuff sent UPS Ground and it was like $6.  This is where they ship stuff out from (I think): 1701 Pearl St. Unit 8, Waukesha WI 53186.  Being in Maine, shipping shouldn't be that bad for you.

As far as ordering certain things online...I googled it and came up with these:

http://www.basic-ingredients.com/
http://www.bulkfoods.com/
http://www.truefoodsmarket.com/index.php/cPath/1

If you spend some time looking around a bit more I'm sure you'd find more places as well.  ;)

This is a pretty good site, too. Seventh-Day Adventist, so not strictly vegan, but a good source for a variety of hard to find products.

Hope you like Maine!  :)

This is from the vegan essentials website....

Can you tell me how much it would cost to ship my order?
Our shipping chart as of the time we're writing this is as follows:

$10 to $25 - $5.95
$25 to $50 - $6.95
$50 to $75 - $7.95
$75 to $100 - $8.95
$100 and up - $9.95

I usually wait until I have a $100 so the shipping is cheaper.

Perfect, that is helpful. I think i will probally end up doing the same thing on that front.

Those other sites will be helpful too. I think the bulkfood.com is the one bookmama mentioned in the past. It looks familiar.  ;) And I might as well sign up for the catalogs or coupons on all of them. Did you guys notice the discount section of the veganessentials.com.....cheap marshmellows!

Good luck in your move - if you wanna peace out w/ us in Maryland feel free.   :-*

:) I'm actually still planning on doing an internship at PETA in a few months and VA is so close to MD that we might could maybe meet! ;)

Vig, you should contact them and see if you can pick up an order that you place. I'm sure that would be just as easy for them as it would be to ship it down the road!
