What do you think will hurt the meat industry more if people didn't order meat when they are out like in restaurants or people stop cooking it at home (in other words shopping at the supermarkets)?
What I'm asking is where do you think they earn the money more?
Supermarkets
People definitely buy more meat from supermarkets, as tanevab said. In America, often every meal is built on the foundation of dead flesh...and most meals are still eaten at home for most people.
I agree - supermarkets. Although, I think the fast food industry comes a close second.
Supermarkets are definitly a big one for consumers but yeah--fast food industries practially created the factory farming business--I know people disagree with this but I wold just love to wake up one day and to see all the FF restaurants gone--kind of like a FF rapture!
I'd have to say restaurants. This is why.........
When I gave notice I was leaving my job as a bookkeeper at a supermarket I was forced to check the remaining time (some weird loss prevention thing-I handled a lot of cash) Anyway, I remembered everytime I had to touch meat :P (can you say hand sanitizer) People bought very little meat in comparison to the amount of other products.
I'm gonna have to say Fast Food as well...
The meat industry... or more correctly, the factory farm industry... grew exponentially with the advent of Fast Food.
Also, I think fast food contributes to so many other problems it's like killing two birds with one stone (sorry for the non-vegan proverb)

Yeah, except they would end up in the other place--char-broiled burger, anyone?? Heee heee hee
:D :D :D
I can guarantee there ain't no FF in Heaven! That place is run by a Lamb!! ;)

Hehe....funny! :D
Today at whole foods I passed by the meat section and almost puked. This has never happened before. I was so disgusted. I doubt I kept a straight face. :o

I turn my head away and scrunch up my nose ... at first i used to try to hide my disgust but I'm pretty sure I'm so revolted that I do it fairly obviously now even if I don't mean to.
also all the people standing there poking and prodding the packets of flesh... eww... do they know what they're doing?? they're poking at dead things! ick.

I've heard other people say that they have this type of reaction. I think maybe it is something that might kind of "grow" on you over time. I haven't been a vegetarian for very long and the meat counter at Wild Oats didn't bother me at first, but now it is starting to. I didn't really notice the odor before, but now I do. Strange. ???

When I first went vegetarian in high school it was for health reasons. I still worked at a local grocery store in the meat department :o It didn't bother me then but now just the smell if the store doesn't keep thing immaculately clean will make me nauseous. :(
