My soymilk maker is on it's way!!!

I got the email with shipping information.  It is in TN and is on it's way.  It says that it is due to arrive Monday and its on time, I hope it gets here sooner, but probably won't.

It is on it's way, yeah!

Which one did you get, SQ?

I got the SoyaPower, it was a step above the Soyajoy.

I will have to go to Whole Foods this weekend and pick up some soybeans!

wow....that sounds really intense.
I feel cool when i make my own pudding rather than with a mix
but making soy-milk...that's pretty rad.

Heck ya! That's pretty cool. Go to costco and get soybeans, they're like $5 for a giganto 8-lb bag. They're non-GMO. I don't know how much they are at whole foods, but it just seems it'd be cheaper at costco, being, well, it's costco.

I would love to go to Costco but there isn't one around here, as far as I am aware.  Kroger may  have them in bags, I am not sure, I have never checked, they do have a health food section.  What I like about Whole Foods is you can get them in bulk, and if you use one of those little resealable containers, you can take it back and refill it over and over.  So I don't have as much trash to throw away.  I am not sure if they are organic and non-GMO but I would be willing to bet they are both.  So far everything I have bought in the bulk section at Whole Foods has been organic.  Even organic dark chocolate chips...in bulk!  Oh and those are soooooo good.  Love putting them in pancakes.

I checked the progress of my soymilk maker, it is in Texas, ALMOST HERE!  Maybe it will get here before Monday.  I hope so.  I am waiting eagerly!  Found some delicous looking recipies on the web, I just can't wait to try them out.

I have been contemplating buying a soymilk make myself.  I like my soymilk to be a certain consistency and it is hard to find that in a lot of commercial brands.  Please update us as soon as you make some.

I have one and love to make fresh soy milk, but my husband does not like the fresh soy milk because it has strong soy taste.  I don't mind it at all because i grew up with fresh soy milk.  He just not use to it.  He hope soy milk will taste like milk I think!

Ha, I think it is interesting how people who are not used to soymilk try it and think it is supposed to taste like cow's milk.  Like I told my mom, I don't like cow's milk because to me it is bland.  Soymilk has a beany, creamy taste to it that is really delicious to me.  She is like: what you like about it is what I don't like about it.

Anyway, I checked the transit of my maker, it is out for delivery, I should be getting it today after work.  I am really looking forward to getting off of work today!  I have some soybeans soaking in the fridge right now so that when I get home I can make a batch of milk right away.

I will keep you updated.

I GOT IT!!!

I make some soymilk last night.  Talk about different.  Wow, it tastes totally different than Silk.  It is less thick, but definately not watery, and more bland than storebought.  But in another sense it has this fresh taste to it.  I am goign to have to play with it to make it a little more drinkable, though for baking and such it is fine, but I want to drink it.  I can drink it as it, it is just a little bland.  But I LOVE it.  I am so glad that I got it.  I think it is going to become my new favorite appliance.  It is a bit labor intensive, but that maybe because I am just no used to it yet so don't have the "knack".  Kind of a pain to clean, but not too bad.

I definately recommend everybody who drinks soymilk regularly to get one.

Can soymilk units also make soy yogurt?

Yes it can make soy yogurt.

There was a recipie that came with it.  Something about you use a little bit of existing soy yogurt, or regular yogurt, to get the bacteria required, then let it ferment.  Seems pretty easy to do.  You can also make tofu, if you get the press box and coagulant which doesn't cost that much.

If you really want to reduce the raw soy beany taste, after you soak the bean you can steam it.  You can use a steamer or rice cooker or pressure cooker.  You don't need to steam it all the way.  About half cook is enough.  Then use the soy milk maker.  The soy milk will taste more like silk.  That is how they process the soy milk.  I never try it because I like the raw bean taste but my sister tried and said it work this way! Good luck!

wow, SQ I'm quite jealous of your soymilk maker.  I would love to own one but a few minor problems with that:

1)My kitchen is really small and Niall has banned anymore kitchen gadget/appliances, and quite rightly so because there really is no more room for anything
2)I've never seen soybeans for sale in the UK except for in the frozen section - they've just become quite trendy as a 'health' food and so are also quite expensive

Having said that I haven't checked Whole Foods (they're about the only place even vaguely likely to sell them) and I'll be moving in about 2 or 3 years to a house (hopefully) with a bigger kitchen, so maybe I can get one then.

Let us know if you make tofu or yoghurt and how it turns out, please  :)

Hola, veggie peeps!

I have a question for all of the SoyaJoy owners...

Do the blades wear down or does the machine eventually not blend the beans as well?

For the last few times I've done it, I've wound up with wateryer milk and a number of beans that the machine hasn't chopped up during the process.

Everything else is the same; I haven't changed the amount of water or the amount of beans... and I've even soaked the beans for extra time (12 hours or so).

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks!

P.S. Here's my optimum formula to make the milk a smidge more like store-bought (nothing can match Silk, admittedly):

strain it through a gold coffee filter into a new pitcher
add 3 tablespoons sugar, 3 tablespoons vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon salt
stir well
let the steaming hot milk sit and cool to room temperature BEFORE putting the lid on the pitcher and putting it in the fridge

I know I"m late on this one SQ690!  I am glad to hear a positive review.  How many times do you have to make soymilk in one week?

Hey M2V.  I see your question.

I make two batches a week, sometimes more depending on how much cooking I do.  I love to make chocolate milk with it.  It makes about 6 cups of soymilk per batch, then about a cup of okara too.  I use the okara for cheese cake, so far, but I plan to expand my horizons and use it with more stuff.  Hmmm, I just may put some in my vegetable soup becuase I hear that it thickens up soups real nicely.  And it adds fiber and protein.  I found that adding a little bit a salt, and some agave nector makes it really tasty.

The SoyaPower is my lovechild. They really should be paying me for how many people have bought that thing because of me!! :)
I love it! Yes, it tastes different than the stuff you buy in stores, but it is so much healthier!! I don't drink it straight though, so I don't care about the taste of it plain as much.
My favorite mix is half almonds, half soybeans. It cuts the amount of soy we eat, plus adds the nutritional benefit of almonds. I would do straight almond, but the texture is creamier and more consistent with the addition of soybeans. ;)b
