So I went to my parents for THanksgiving, and apparently my mother put meat and meat juices in some of the things that she told me were vegetarian. (She is evil).
I didn't even know she had put meat in the food until today, but I spent all yesterday throwing up, and still feel nauseous today.
Is it possible that meat is making me sick?
I am thinking that it is possible the meat made you sick. You've been veg for a while now & I think it's totally understandable how your body would reject meat.
I hope you feel better soon :-*
That would make me not want to talk to my mother again. Or at the very least not eat at her house again. That was a bitchy thing she did to you.

agreed. >:( ....that is, if You're certain that it wasn't just an honest mistake (or several honest mistakes) on her part. which it kinda sounds like it wasn't.
I know she's Your mother, but c'mon...what she did made You physically ILL.
If I were in Your shoes, I'd have made sure to puke on her floor, couch, or kitchen counter if I'd had the chance, and made her clean it up, of course. Seems completely fair to me.
Oh man. That is awful. I think it is completely possible that the meat is what is making you sick. I ate meat once after I first decided to become vegetarian and it gave me awful diarrhea. I felt horrible. I didn't puke, but I could definitely see that happening.
I think the meat didn't make you sick, but the IDEA of the meat made you sick. That's happened to me before. I'm sure you're mom meant well. They usually do(I hope). Feel Better.
Dude, that's not cool at all. I don't understand why people get off doing stuff like this. My mom would be very sorry if she did something like this to me because I wouldn't be speaking to her for a very long time.
I think the meat could've made you sick. A few months ago, I was given a wrong item at taco bell and I almost threw up just from the taste. It tasted like bile. Seriously. It took over an hour to get the taste out of my mouth.

I think it's possible. I once at chinese that was made with meat without knowing and was sick for two days. It wasn't until I looked the recipe up online a few weeks later that I saw it had meat in it.
After being vegetarian for a while your body knows.

Yes. Your body knows... that meat is not food. ::)
blech! I just feel so horrible and STILL nauseous. I'm never eating here again >:(
In order to digest meat your body has to produce the right enzymes to break it down--after awhile veg*ns will stop producing these enzymes as they are completly unnecessary, so yes, you can get very, very sick from eating meat after not having it for awhile.
It seems as if she knowingly did that and to me, it's not only disrespectful to you and your belief system but downright mean. It's yet another example of someone showing contempt for the vegan or vegetarian diet. I've never been able to understand why people become so defensive and combative. Even when I was eating meat, I always had great admiration for someone who didn't. But like you, I always get grief from my mother and she still can't wait for that magical moment when she'll enter the room and see me inhaling a double-cheeseburger from McDonalds. In any rate, I hope you'll feel better soon and won't have to be subjected to such treatment ever again.
I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm also reminded how fortunate I am to have a supportive family (in most aspects of veganism, anyway). :iloveyou:
yeah....she's not real supportive of me in any respect...I mostly come to visit my dad, but even he doesn't "get" the veggie thing. As a matter of fact, he takes a vegetable pill as a replacement for eating real vegetables. I've tried to explain that I don't think that's quite the same thing, but he won't listen. OH! And something that REALLY blew my mind... i was looking for a lite breakfast yesterday morning and....They... have... no ....fruit.
At all. !!! I was in shock. :o
I just can't wait to go home tomorrow and have some applesauce and some hot tea to soothe my poor digestive system.
If you didn't know there was meat in it when you felt sick and started with the nausea etc, then yes, it was the meat. It would only be a "psychological "reaction if you got sick AFTER you were told there was meat in it.
Some people are really sensitive to meat, as we on VW know.
And some cooks are really heartless. I hope at least she didn't think she was being "funny" and laugh about your sickness. Some "people" do that.

Poor you. As others have said - I totally think it was the meat that made you ill.
Why would she put meat juice in things she said were veggie? I really don't get it. Was it in vegetables and stuff?
Maybe she's feeling guilty now and that's why she's 'owned up'. Now she's seen your bodies reaction she prbably won't do it again (although I doubt you'll eat there again anyway)
thats awful!!! have you told her how sick it made you?? i can most times tell if something has meat in it, because i get so sick afterwards. one time at a mexican restaurant, after eating refried beans, i felt so sick, i had to go lay down in the bathroom for 20 minutes. it was awful. it definitely can make you sick.
