The reactions of my omni family…
When I made the decision to go veg I didn’t announce it right away because I wanted to take some time to try it out to make sure it was something I thought I could really do before making some life altering statement to them. After a couple of weeks in my new veg lifestyle I feel better than ever & def know that this is a choice I am so happy to have made. I wish I hadn’t waited so darn long! I am eating foods that I never even realized that I liked…I have a new love affair going on with zucchini & eggplant – don’t let them find out about each other, LOL! ;D
Anyways…my Mom was/is being very supportive, but is perplexed because when I come to her house she doesn’t quite know what to feed me, hehe! But she is very curious & has been pumping me for info, so that’s great! She’s willing to learn & try new things with me, YAY!
My Bro told me that it is NOT natural. To which I replied that it is perfectly natural because if all the grocery stores closed down tomorrow & I had to suddenly get my food from nature somehow I would NOT be killing animals for it. He gave me a sort of ‘whatever’ look & left me alone.
My Mom told my grandpa & his reply was “it’s about time, I can’t believe it took her so long”, haha! That made me laugh so hard, if you knew my meat-loving grandpa you’d think it was funny too! But I guess he always knew I was different than the rest of the family.
My SO was great & he was the one I was worried about. He is not only a huge meat eater, but a butcher to boot. I asked him if it was sacrilege for a butcher to be with a vegetarian who is aspiring to be vegan, and he said most people will probably think it is really odd, but we will “rock it out & it will be awesome”! He loved the idea (I think he loves all the new recipes I’ve been making too ;)).
:) It's nice to hear stories about supportive families.
That is a great story, Cheyaj :) I am lucky enough to have a vegan best friend and another friend is almost veg, but not on purpose. She just doesn't like any meat, but chicken. My mom is also almost lacto-ovo, except for the occasional chicken (what's with the chicken !?!?!?! LOL). My SO is a meat eater, but doesn't mind my diet MOST of the time. He will throw a fit if I cook vegan for too many meals in a row. But other than that, he likes my cooking.
Awesome and congrats on your decision to live a life of less harm! :) My family is quite supportive of my decision to be vegan (my hubby is vegan as well). We usually eat dinner at my parent's house a few times a month and my mother always has something tasty (AND vegan) for us. Cooking for us has also helped her to look at her diet and eat healthier foods, which is really great considering her health issues. She had a brain anyurism last year and thankfully with surgery she's still with us today.
I've realized that my hubby and I are extremely lucky to have my family as there are so many other family/friends of ours that don't understand our lifestyle and are close-minded. You're very lucky!
Awwww your grandpa sounds so cute!
Glad to hear it's going well! :)
