So proud of my mom...

So I have to preface this by saying my mom is not really into the "vegan, recycling, tree hugging" lifestyle that I am...  Actually she is pretty close to the opposite.  Anyway, I have been trying to get her to recycle more and do things like reuse shopping bags and stuff.  So I went over to her house 2 days ago and right when I walked in the door there were these reusable shopping bags all over the kitchen!!!  I was like "Mom, I am so proud of you!"  Then, a few minutes later she was like "Guess what I just bought?"  And she appeared from a closet holding a brand new Vitamix!  Holy cow!  :D  Not only that but she busted out this container of soy protein smoothie mix and said "I bought you some vegan protein powder lets make some smoothies!"
I thought maybe I was going to wake up from a great dream!  I can only hope that I was the influence that caused her to make these positive changes!  Now I have my fingers crossed that they also bought me a Vitamix for X-Mas, he he....  ;D

Wow!  A Vitamix isn't a $20 trinket (maybe for some, not me), that's awesome.  Does she live close?  If so, and you don't get one (*fingers crossed*) you can be in her kitchen.  Some people go home for laundry, you go home for Vitamix.  ;D  There are some raw recipes I want to try, but to get things as smooth as they need to be, ya need a Vitamix.  How was the smoothie?

my dad is the first person i really talked to about going vegan, and he has been so supportive.. always ordering the same thing i do when we go out to eat, suggesting really awesome food ideas, even talking about trying to eat less meat.  on xmas eve he wants to make vegan sushi! i noticed my stepmom is using those reusable grocery bags too and buying a lot more organic/local type things. it's awesome to see people change for the better!

It sure is awesome! We all started somewhere, and while some people can just take the plunge, for others it's all about baby steps. Even eating less meat is a start; and once they see you can make delicious, meatless meals they're well on the way! Not to mention the positive impact of the savings on the grocery bill! 2 years ago my DH laughed at tofu; now he eats it often!

that is soo cool!
I feel like my family used to be more vegan, and now they've become less  :'(. One of my brothers DID say to me the other day "I'll believe anything Hannah says about nutrition, but that doesn't mean I will do it." Which I saw as a good sign  ::). I figure once he gets old enough to actually think about what he is doing to himself/the animals/the planet he will come around.

That's so nice to hear, KendraKat!

None of my family members are really that keen about veganism (they accept that I am vegan but aren't that interested in it for themselves).  But I did get my  mom to start buying local produce from the farmer's market after I took her to the farmer's market in the town where I go to school.  Which means everyone in the house is also eating a bit better!  I was happy about that  :)

That's so great your families are supportive! Mine are great too--my mom even bought two tofurkey feasts for me to make the fam for xmas dinner :)

I'm always hearing stories of people's families who try to sneak meat into their food and refuse to buy them things they can eat, etc, etc--it's nice to hear that families can bond through the vegan lifestyle!! Just think of the ripple effect--if every vegan turned one person and that person turned one person--what a wonderful thing!
