I have been a vegetarian for about 4 years now, a vegan for 2 of those years..I have always have had weight "issues". when i first was a vegan i lost 50 pounds from working out and a better diet in a couple of months. then over about a year i gained and then some and i still work out. yoga and aerobics daily. i walk to and from work...i dont eat fried food like ever. perhaps like once a month ill get french fries. i tried cutting out pasta..but when i attempt to cut carbs..i get soo dizzy and i feel sick. im losing my mind on how to lose weight...i am assuming carbs are my problem..but i dont know what i can do to offset the sick feeling.... help! :-\
When you cut carbs, are you talking atkins or just reduced portions?
i just reduced my intake
how about increasing your protein, fiber and fat along w/ your carbs? This will help you stay fuller, longer and you might be able to lower your amount of straight up carbs, without feeling dizzy.
stick w/high fiber, complex carbs...like oatmeal, quinoa, beans, lentils, wheat pasta, etc.
Are you drinking enough? 5 or 6 small meals a day will help keep your metabolism up throughout the day, lessing the swings of your blood sugar /insulin and possibly any cravings.
YOu could also try measuring out your meals....find out what a real carb portiion is. Often, we just fill up a "bowl"...but dont realize that it could be 3 or 4 portions.
you say you walk, but mixing up your routine will challenge your body, burning more calories. Add in some weights and it should help.
how long has this been going on? Or when did you first notice the dizziness with lower carbs. It sounds sort of like you have high insulin levels, but not type 2 db (insulin resistance).
I don't think it sounds like anything catastrophic is wrong, but if I were you I would have both a thyroid test and a glucose tolerance test done.
