Guess what? I just found out I'm going to be teaching an elementary autism class next school year and I'm stoked! I've been wanting to teach an autism class forever. My sister and I are planning a massive thrifting trip to the Twin Cities next weekend to load up on games, books and toys for my new classroom and I'm wondering if while I'm up there I should check out Trader Joe's. I've heard everyone on here talk about it, but I've never been to one.
Is it worth a side trip? Do they have bulk bins and/or really good prices on any vegan pantry goods?
Do they have wasabi peas? That right there might be enough to warrant a trip.
Is it worth a side trip? YES!
Do they have bulk bins and/or really good prices on any vegan pantry goods? No and yes
Do they have wasabi peas? YES!!!!! Yum...
I live in the Twin Cities, very close to Trader Joe's. Quite honestly, Whole Foods is very close and - in my humble opinion - is much, much better. I've only been in Trader Joe's a couple of times so I'm not sure of everything they have in stock, but it pales in comparison to WF. I don't remember there being bulk bins there. There are also so many food co ops here in the Twin Cities.
BTW - I work with adults with autism.
they have great prices which is why i shop there. the produce section could use some work (excessive packaging!), but they have some great staples and a lot of cheap wine and beer.
Trader Joe's has 19-cent bananas, 49-cent bananas, 99-cent tofu and $1.99 raspberry sorbet. They also sell vegan cookies, tofutti cream cheese, a variety of nuts, canned beans and offer a good wine selection.
Okay. So lately I've been posting links after someone has already posted them. I checked and I didn't see this link, but I'm so tired the words and letters are actually blurry.

I would say definitely go but when we went we were expecting so much more than what there was...and the prices were much higher than what we could have spent at our local grocery store...but it was a fun experience!
I feel that Trader Joe's is quite different from location to location. I had heard so many great and wonderful things about it but upon moving to CT and going to the one local to me, I was highly disappointed. It has some things but my local health food store and Stop & Shop have much much more. Perhaps the ones on the west coast are better but I am not impressed.
Wild Oats or Whole Foods now? I have yet to be disappointed.
