Vegan Before Dinnertime

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/02/27/vegan-before-dinnertime/

Has anyone else heard about this?  I'm wondering what people's thoughts are.  On one hand, I think if you are eating vegan for most of the day, why not just eat that way all the time?  On the other hand, this way of eating could introduce people to vegan cooking and a healthier lifestyle...and theoretically, if a lot of people adopted this method of eating, it would reduce the consumption of animal products.

Thoughts?

I've heard of this.  I think it's very positive.  The more vegan meals, the better.  Who knows--suppose in a group of 100 people, maybe 1 is willing to go vegan, but I bet many more than that would be willing to have some vegan meals.  And if 2/3 of their day is vegan foods, then for every 6 of them who did it, that would be like 4 vegans!  Which is awesome.

It's also another step in the right direction.  I mean, it might be the start of a shift in consciousness for many people.  They will realize they don't neeeeeed meat.  I mean, yeah, it's kind of half-assed, but far be it from me to poo-poo someone who is putting a small dent in reducing animal suffering.

Right on KMK! Very well said--I agree--any reduction in animal product intake is a step in the right direction! I've also heard of the campaign "Vegan Tuesday" where people eat excluively vegan on that day--or what ever day of the week they pick. I'm so happy to learn that people are at least willing to try eating this way <3

I agree with Kate.  Each and every vegan meal saves an animal.  I also agree that some of those folks are going to take a look at their final meal and eventually go vegan all the way.

It's a step, a baby step, in the right direction.  If it can just open their minds up to vegan foods a little bit then that is at least something.  As for animal rights I'm glad fewer animals will suffer but I really doubt the people on these diets are even aware of that aspect.  They are coming at veganism for health reasons...all very well and good too...maybe they will be exposed to animal rights through their change in diet?  I hope so.
