I just saw an ad on tv for the website http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/
I'm glad to see this on tv. Maybe it will open more people's eyes. It made me really excited, so I had to share!
That's awesome! It's nice to see sites like that!
This ad is on tv?! And WalMart isn't freaking out over it? We need more stuff like this.
There was another link to another ad on youtube. Here, this one is good too ;)

It's so awesome a commercial like that made it onto TV. I'd think the affiliate would be afraid of losing Walmart advertising dollars.
Not that I'm upset that WalMart gets picked on, but it's like people want a similar store, like Target, to be okay so they can shop there and still feel morally superior. If they recognized how their concerns are spread to multiple chains, then they might have to rethink their purchases.

I hate walmart. I haven't been there in years.
I know that a lot of Target stuff is made in China too, but all in all, they are a better company. They donate a TON more money to schools than Walmart. My sister has worked there for years, and they treat her VERY well. She has excellent benefits, great pay, and they even reimbursed her several hundred dollars when she lost food from no power during a hurricane. I can't see Walmart doing that.
Oh yeah....Shane and I have a few bumper stickers with their insignia stuck on our stuff (I also have a walmartwatch.com sticker on my Nalgene), Plus I have the yard placard featured in this photo: http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/tour/images/gallery/big/pitt2.jpg , which I used to have up in my bedroom window (in the old apt) for all passers-by to see.....
but my new landlady has strict rules about having any sort of sign in public display, yard, window, or otherwise on property. >:(
but heck yeah, man.....more people need to be aware of WHY it is that others boycott this rotten POS corporation.
I used to only hear the claim that Wal-Mart ruins local economies, and not really anything else.....But when a super Wal-Mart opened in a nearby town, it was GREAT for the city, providing lots of jobs for its citizens (and those in neighboring towns, like mine), and local businesses still flourished. So I shopped there, bought my clothes there....not really thinking about WHY those tops and skirts were SO cheap...
and when I finally educated myself about all the atrocities that Wal-Mart is responsible for, I decided to never support that business.
I think some people just really DON'T KNOW of all that Wal-Mart does to our entire planet and its inhabitants...which is why I love and promote sites like this.

So true. I have several family members & a bunch of friends who either work for Target now, or have in the past (it's a Minnesota-based company--where I live--if I remember correctly, so it's very popular). They DO treat their employees very well. Most of my issues with Wal-Mart aren't about their goods being imported from other countries. Yeah, I don't like it, but that's not my biggest beef. What I hate is how they treat their OWN employees here, in America, where it's illegal to do their business practices. They hire illegal immigrants & underpay them, lock them in the store overnight, or generally mistreat them. THAT'S the shit I won't stand for. I do my best to buy fair-trade goods from ethical companies that pay their workers fair wages (as opposed to China-made goods), but when huge corporations in America break our OWN laws to save a buck, that's what pisses me off most.
wow the pittsburgh TV station ran the ad twice during the newshour 5-7pm, I was quite surprised to see it.

You know whats weird--it's totally opposite in my area--Target treats their employess like sh*t here--but wal mart employees are happy! Don't misunderstand what I am saying--I do not support wal mart--they are extra shady--it's just odd that depending on the area workers are treated differently. EVERYONE I have ever known to work for target, which is actually a lot, since I live in a college town people work a lot of jobs--when I worked at a restaurant we had a ton of people come to work for us from target and they would complain up a storm about them! On the other hand whenever my mom and I would go to wal mart *she like to shop there...I know it's awful..I just tag along* anyways--I would always ask the workers if they were happy and treated ok and they all say yes! I know this is soully based on my observations and again I do not support wal mart--just throwing it out there for a comparison.
