Who comes to that conclusion: "Hmm..I think I'll use the bile that this monkey just expelled in this lemon jello. Mmm... bile and gelatin."

The reason I doubt it is, there is this old rumor and it sounds so much the same:
What is FD & C Red #40 and is it vegan? FD & C Red #40 is 99% coal tar derivatives. We don't know of any animal products in it. For years a rumor has claimed that it is made of cochineal or carmine, but that is not true. http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/faqingredients.htm#red

It can really screw with someone's head though! :) Furthermore, don't you think if monkey bile WERE in yellow no. 5 someone on this site of all places would know it and say, "Yep, that's true, I never used yellow #5." I think for sure that Davedrum or mdvegan would already know it (if it were true) and we'd have heard it before.
Sorry to be the DEBUNKING POLICE I just don't want fake info to get out. ;)

I was going to say that this is not true as well. Yes they use monkeys for animal testing >:(but I have not heard of extracting anything from them for food coloring.

It'd be pretty surprising, on account of how expensive monkeys are to buy and keep around. They're probably not going to pay for monkey bile just to get your dollar pack of peeps the perfect shade.

Well if it were true I'm sure those companies would just make their rounds collecting it from the primal-testing labs and not have the pay a dime. Those primates are either caught in their natural habitat or taken from zoos or any other place that exploits animals.
It's a relief to know that yellow #5 isn't obtained by urine but I'm sure the chemicals are just as bad anyway.
Grooooosssss!
OMG! :o Ewwww!
that is absolutely discusting

Haha... okay, sorry guys but now I'm fairly certain that this isn't true.
If you google it you get this blog: http://ginger-snaps.us/blog/?p=368
Which links to this site as a "fact source": http://www.gullible.info/archive.php?id=388
In case you didn't know, all the "facts" on that site are satirical. :D
