What dont you eat as a vegan?

People have a vision of what vegetarians/vegans are..they think you eat salad all day and throw up at the sight ofmeat? Im unlike most vegans.
Im not a big fan of salad, I dont eat vegan cheese( still freaks me out) and I dont really like juice.
I want to know what dont people eat besides meat and dairy...

I don't like salad either.  Way too much chewing...
I'm not a juice fan either.  I love smoothies, but not green ones or green juices.  Just seems to weird for me at this point in my food journey.
I also don't like most exotic fruits (sorry hesp) or leafy veggies or stuff that is too far outside the range of what I grew up with.  And I don't eat much for the fake meats / tofu when I'm at school, and only a little when I'm at home.

I don't like tempeh much, though I occasionally eat it anyway.
I hate sprouts ><
I'm pretty much open to trying new fruits/veg, but there are some I just don't like. I know I'm weird, but I don't like grapes. But artificially-flavored "grape" things, though, I like.
I'm ok with most vegan substitutes. Generally if I don't like something, it's not that it grosses me out, it's just not to my taste.

i don't like vegan cheese either... i'm over it for now... i love me a good salad though <3... i don't eat eggplant, tempeh, unsweetened "milk", or chia sprouts... i also don't like eating oranges or clementines because that white skin stuff leftover makes me choke... there are a lot of fruits and veggies i haven't tried but i'm not ruling them out as of yet

I don't eat mushrooms. yuck! And every restaurant seems to have the veg option be a portabello mushroom dish (chains) . Luckily most of the places around here have tempeh reubens and stuff.

I wish I liked tempeh because its easier to absorb in your body but its weird.

I am not a huge fruit person and usually eat salad only in the spring or summer.  Smoothies are just too cold for me...I like the idea of them but then it makes me too cold and definitely does not feel like a meal...I like to chew. I guess I love warm, hot, hearty foods. I loooove tempeh! But not the first time I tasted it.

I hate Tofu, and although I don't hate salads...I rarely eat them, I don't like soy milks either...I use almond milk, I don't eat tempeh, or vegan cheeses, and I don't like sprouts

I eat mostly a whole foods diet.  I'm not big on meat/cheese analogs and rarely eat tofu or tempeh.  I love fruit but am trying to eat more vegitables these days.  I'm also trying to cut down my grain consumption.  I really don't know what people think I eat.  Lol.  On the regular meal rotation here are tacos, vegetable fried rice, stir fry, echiladas, cashew fettucini alfredo, taco salad, macaroni and cashew cheese, various soups/stews, etc.  I don't feel limited in any way by being vegan.  I do eat less sweets that I'd like, but that has nothing to do with being vegan.

The other week someone asked me what I ate on an average day. At first I had no idea what to say - it's not like a vegan diet is so limited that I really have an "average day" of food. But I guess that's what most people think. He was probably expecting me to say I had a breakfast salad, a salad for lunch, and a large salad for dinner.

I was going to say this. Why is it that ALL  veg*ns  must have  a deep love of mushrooms?

Well, for the most part, I pretty much hate soul food, or any of the stuff people serve on Thanksgiving. I mean, mashed potatoes are okay, but I certainly don't ever think to myself, "Man, you know what I'd love to eat today? Mashed potatoes and grits!! YEAH!!"

I also hate lettuce. And radishes? YUCK.

I am also the exact opposite of faunablues. I loooove tempeh, sprouts, grapes, and exotic fruit-- but I HATE grape flavored candy. Nasty, tastes like cough syrup.

I've never tried kombucha, but I refuse to. Kombucha is probably the only vegan thing in the world that straight-up horrifies me.

I just finished brewing my first batch and it turned out awesome! It is pretty creepy though once you know how it's actually made LOL

I have to join the camp of mushroom haters. I am working on it though. I will eat them in soups or sauces if they are chopped up really tiny. But blech to those portobella mushroom burgers/sandwiches most restaurants offer.  I also HATE HATE silken tofu unless it is blended into a sauce or something. My main problem is just that I do not like anything slimy. EW! Also hate brussel sprouts, but that is probably because my mother used to boil them and make me eat them as my main veggie as a kid ALL THE TIME. I am contemplating the roasted version on this site.

Since I have become veg I am finding that my hatred of some veggies was or is just because they were never cooked right for me. I used to hate squash, but once I learned that I only hated them boiled, but loved them fried I was good to go. I just try to be adventurous.

Although, I will probably never be a big fruit person. I like most fruit, but I just do not love it enough to eat lots of it.

I hate mushrooms too!!!  And avocados, ginger, sweet potatoes, and just about anyithing mushy.  My daughter LOVES mushrooms, so I add them to just about everything.  She always eats the mushrooms off my plate.  She doesn't like sweet potatoes, bell peppers, and onion (even tiny ones) but will almost everything else.  I've always been a picky eater.  I'm really glad she isn't.

Me Too, I love Mushrooms

This thread shocks me! I had always thought that omnis were incredibly picky, and I had the idea in my head that vegans weren't really picky at all! Hmmmm....:)

I don't think there's any vegan thing I won't eat. I'm not picky at all, minus the whole meat/egg/cheese/dairy thing. Ummm, soy milk isn't my favorite, but I'll still drink it. I've always thought cherry tomatoes were a little weird, the way they pop in your mouth when you bite them, so I cut them in half first and I'm golden. I'm not huge on fake meats or any other highly processed item. I just prefer a whole foods sort of diet without much refined anything.

Many of the reasons why vegans are picky is because before they became vegan, they questioned food..
In addition, some foods have weird textures. Take mushrooms for example, if they are not made right, they can taste real bad.
I have never liked peanut butter, avocados, anything creamy and red meat. When I was young I was extremely picky. I only ate chicken and fish for years until I started studying food and changed my way of eating.
I wanted to know what people dont like to eat because it seems that omnis always think as a vegan you love salads and love veggie burgers and grass. Lol
Omnis are extreme lol

I am with a lot of others too.  I also hate mushrooms - yuk!  The only mushroom I like is moral mushrooms that grow wild, but they are really hard to find and if I do find one it is usually just pure luck, kind of like finding a 4 leaf clover.

Not a big fan of tempeh or avocados either, but will eat them in some stuff.

My number one thing though is CILANTRO!!!
I hate hate hate hate hate a zillion times HATE cilantro!!!  If I had a magic gene I would wish cilantro didn't exist I hate it so bad!  I can't stand the way it smells, the way it tastes, and you can't fool me with the "oh there is so little in there you can't taste it" because that doesn't work for me, you can have it 1 tsp per gallon and I would still taste it and retch!  The only "salsa" I will buy is pace picante sauce because it doesn't have even a tiny hint of cilantro in it.  Most vegans read labels to make sure it doesn't have animal products, I read salsa labels to make sure it doesn't have cilantro!  I so wish cilantro would wither away and die! Even walking by it at the farmers market or grocery store I smell it before I even know it is there and I get nausious and have to leave the area quickly.  I have no idea how people can eat that disgusting stuff.  I think dog poop smells better then cilantro!

It's funny, people always ask my why I don't use bell peppers or radishes in my cookbooks. It's cuz I don't like them!!

That's about it though. As long as it's really healthy, I like every other vegan thing.
