what is up with my face?!?!?

ok.

when i was reading up on being vegan earlier in the summer, i came across some stories of people who had gone vegan and how it had changed their lives for the better....

almost everyone said that they lost weight and their skin cleared up....one girl even said that her skin was "glowing" since she cut out dairy....

so i was really excited about seeing my body/skin change for the better. my skin has never been "bad" really, it's never been perfect, but i have never been considered to be a pizza face either. but i was thinking that all my little blemishes would probably go away in a month or 2.

well, i have been a faithful vegan since the middle of july, and my skin is getting WORSE! it looks worse now than it ever has. i don't understand. i wash my face at night before bed and in the morning when i shower....i don't ever wear concealer of foundation...just organic loose powder and blush...

so WHY is this happening???

if anyone has any ideas/suggestions, PLEASE let me know! it's driving me nuts!

thanks!!!!

The only thing that I have to say is that washing too much can be just as bead as washing too little.

Same problem for me. I had lovely skin. Still battling it, but it's better.

I've heard of other people having this same problem.  One theory I heard was that it was your body getting rid of toxins.  Don't know if it's true, but it could be.

is your powder that mineral stuff? i think ive heard that that can cause skin stuff sometimes.

thanks guys!

meggs, that is so funny i posted almost the exact same thing that you did! LOL!

i had thought that it could be some form of detox, but i figured what ever junk was in there would surely be out by now...but maybe not...

no, ponycakes, it is not bare minerals....it's....crap, i can't think of the name of it, but i got it at wal-mart.

you know, maybe i'm not eating enough "pure" food...i eat a lot of tofu and a lot of pasta....i hardly ever eat raw veggies. and i do smoke, and i do drink coffee...but i've always done those things and it never seemed to bother my skin before!

this is a mystery.  :P

check to see if your mineral powder contains bismuth oxychloride, it can cause acne for some people!

if your powder is a pure mineral that includes zinc, it should help your skin. The mineral make up I sell at work really seems to help people with break outs.  Is the baby in your pic yours?  Hormones greatly affect your skin....having a baby, changing birth control, going through pre menopause, etc

Are you cleaning your brushes thoroughly after applying makeup? They hold bacteria like no joke, so make sure you do it at least every other day.

it really isn't like a mineral kind of make up...it's like normal powder...just organic....if that makes any sense at all!

yes, that is my daughter in the picture...when i was pregnant, i got HORRIBLE back acne, and i had never had so much as a single zit on my back before....but about a week or two after i gave birth, it cleared up completely.

the more i think about it, this acne thing is pretty recent...i'd say it's been pretty bad for about a month now. it has to be either my makeup or my pillow....the side of my face that is really bad is the side that i sleep on.

ledzepfan, i do NOT clean my brushes! how would i go about doing that??

use baby shampoo or a mild cleanser to clean your brushes.  also, wipe your cell phone off cause it carries tons of bacteria

this is one of those HUGE brushes....it seems like it would stay wet for a long time. but i'll do it anyway!

and, yeah, my phone is gross....i keep it wiped down pretty well though...

thanks so much for the advice!!

I've been having pretty bad acne lately, too. Not that I've never NOT had acne...but it has been especially annoying for a few weeks now. I've been vegan for 1 year +..so I don't think it has anything to do with that. Mine is actually worse on the side that I don't usually sleep on..and I'm wearing the same makeup (bareminerals) that I've been wearing.........so..I dunno.

Me too, I have been having bad acne for the past two years. It's getting better, except when I wax then my whole face breaks out. And my former esthetician would always tell me to take this type of contraceptive pill to take of that. As if having hair in the face and a few pimples was the end of the world. She actually made me feel bad about myself! (That's why I don't see her anymore).

Since, going veg, I haven't seen a difference in my skin than before.

Try cutting out all processed sugar & refined flour. Eating too much of these things cause some people to break out. Maybe when you became veg you started eating more of these things?

i am going on a raw "fast" starting december 14th...i'm gonna quit smoking that day, too. it's the day after my hubby graduates college, so we thought it would be a good gesture, and we want to have another baby soon, so i want to detox before i get pregnant.

but.....i haven't been eating more sugar since going vegan. i actually eat less...so that probably isn't it.

This might sound weird - but I stopped washing my face about a year ago & my skin has never been better.  I don't get it wet in the shower or anything.  My skin has not become oily from this & it feels & looks clean.  I don't need a moisturizer - it's usually perfectly balanced.  I don't get pimples either.  Very occasionally, I where Bare Escentuals makeup if I'm getting gussied up or something.  I don't wash this makeup off though & its never caused me problems.

I tell you this because I used to wash my face like 2 & 3 times a day.  Had breakouts & combination skin.  One day, I just got tired of the whole beauty regimen & stopped.  It was a little weird at first not going through the process every morning & evening.  But man, what a freeing experience!  I think our skin is well-equipped to take care of itself & it doesn't like when we mess with it too much.  I just wish I had stopped a along time ago.  Would have saved myself a lot of time & money.

You never rinse it? I stopped washing my face too, but I still rinse with water. I've tried EVERYTHING there is to try to help my skin, but I've had some form of acne since 7th grade. Annoying. I wear bareescentuals too. No rinsing huh....I guess I'll try that.

I rinse mine. once or twice a day, I just splash it with some water a few times. And my skin is clear. I think working up a good sweat once a day, or every other day really helps clean out your pores.
