2. In a saucepan, bring caramel topping ingredients to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for five minutes.

SO HOW'D IT GO?
Update: It was still mildly warm when I tried it the first time. I tried it again once it had cooled fully and it was good. This is definitely a pie to make a day ahead. I read an apple pie review on another site that said that small Granny Smith apples may be bitter and to use the large Granny Smith, but that Golden Delicious provide the most consistent results. I used small Granny Smiths; maybe that accounts for the extra tartness.
I was hoping to like this more. I used Granny Smith apples, which were still quite tart after the pie baked. My mouth is filled with tartness and coated with sweet. Meh.
I already know this pie is gonna be one of our favorites but I can only make a graham cracker crust since I seem to be unable to make a plain, regular pie crust after about 45 years of trying on and off. I'd love to be able to make a crust like the photos I'm seeing above.
Thanks ever so much for the recipe and if anyone has any ideas how I can overcome my pie-making impediment, I'd surely welcome some help either here or by pm.
Peace, love and understanding.
This is amazing! My housemates adore it and just devoured the whole thing :)
Is brown rice flour ok for the caramel topping?
This is so good! I made it for the japanese family I was staying with, and they loved it as well. I added cinnamom. Thanks for this recipe :)
Daaaah this is great! Even just the 35 minutes was perfect, and the apples are super soft.
I only tried it out of the oven, but I can't wait to try it cold tomorrow morning. =)=)
This is hands down the best apple pie we have ever eaten. It is so delicious! We ate ours warm with vegan vanilla ice cream. Fabulous!
This was so easy and soooo tasty. This is the kind of pie that gives vegan baking a good name!! I also added cinnamon as some of the other reviewers mentioned. Yay pie!!!!
This pie was excellent! I also added some brownsugar and cinnamon to my apple slices--just fantastic!!
