Broccoli with Orange Peel and Walnuts
What you need:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 orange, remove peel in 1" strips with a vegetable peeler
1/4-1/2 cup walnuts (or pecans)
2 cups broccoli, bite sized
juice of orange
2 tablespoons soy sauce (I use reduced sodium)
1/2 tablespoon lemon pepper
1/4-1/2 tablespoon finely minced fresh ginger
What you do:
1. Heat oil over medium heat in a 12 inch non-stick skillet. Add orange peel and nuts. Saute until peel just begins to turn golden on edges. Be careful not to burn! This will take only two to three minutes.
2. Add broccoli and saute five minutes. While cooking broccoli, sprinkle mixture with the orange juice. After about four minutes, add soy sauce ginger and lemon pepper.
3. Stir well and serve either hot, warm, or chilled.

SO HOW'D IT GO?
Excellent recipe. I did add some diced water chesnuts but otherwise followed recipe exactly. Delicious and the family enjoyed it. Will make again.
This is really delicious and so easy to make! I love being able to use simple ingredients to create such a unique and flavorful dish-- I will make this again soon. I added water chestnuts, a few drops rice vinegar and a bit of chopped cilantro and served it over rice. YUM!
Total flavor explosion! It was odd to have broccoli taste tart, but also pretty delicious. I didn't have fresh ginger, but I liked it regardless...
just as good as i was excepting it to taste :)
oranges arent in season right now where i am, so i couldnt get a fresh one.. i did have some diced candied orange peel and orange juice tho, so i used those instead (about 1/4 cup of each) and just plain black pepper instead of lemon pepper.. it was so good! i ate it with rice for lunch :)
oh also its very hard to get broccoli here but i managed to get a small head.. it wasnt 2 cups tho.. but i did have a bunch of broccoli leaves, which taste like the heads, but have leafy parts as well as the stalks, so i used those and the head i had to equal 2 cups chopped... it was great!
This recipe was a big hit at my work holiday party and at a family dinner. Delicious way to spice up broccoli.
