Flammkuchen (a German pizza)
1 (8 ounce) package smoked tofu, finely cubed
oil, for frying
1/2 cup vegan yogurt
1/2 cup vegan cream
1 teaspoon herbs de provence
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
black pepper, to taste
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 pizza dough
1. Preheat oven to 475°F. Fry smoked tofu in pan with the oil. Meanwhile, mix together the yogurt, cream, herbs, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
2. Stretch out the pizza dough into 1 or 2 circles or rectangles and place on a pizza stone or baking paper lined baking sheet. Spread the yogurt and cream mixture on the dough, and then top with the onion and tofu.
3. Bake until the dough is browned and the topping is bubbly. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and enjoying!
Source of recipe: My friend came up with this recipe when trying to create a vegan flammkuchen, which is usually made with cream or quark and ham. She gave me permission to post the recipe here.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Funny story: I was telling a fellow friend from the U.S. about flammkuchen and when he asked what it was I said it was like pizza. His girlfriend, a US expat in Germany like myself, said, "Pizza? Only it doesn't have tomato sauce, or cheese, anything else similar!" And I was like yeah, well it doesn't have tomato sauce or cheese, but it has a cream sauce and it's on dough..." She replied, "Uh, pflaumkuchen... plum cake...?" Haaaahhaha. Pflaumenkuchen and flammkuchen definitely should not be mistaken for one another!
Yes, I think I've used that kind before and it's perfect. I like Oatly too.
can i use "soya cuisine" for the vegan cream?
