I Can't Believe It's Vegan Gravy!
What you need:
1 vegetable bullion cube
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
few good dashes garlic powder
2 heaped tablespoons nutritional yeast
few good dashes soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1/4-1/2 cup flour, as needed (I use brown rice flour)
1 tablespoon vegan butter
sea salt and pepper, to taste
What you do:
1. Combine all ingredients in pot, and bring to boil.
2. Cook on medium low heat until done.
I sometimes like to add a little pinch of sage as well. This goes great over everything! My Dad (avid meat eater) says that this gravy is delicious!

Absolutely the best gravy I've ever had. Put it on mashed potatoes and chicken-friend (seitan) steak.
It's also great on biscuits with a little vegan chorizo thrown in.
Really good! I think this is the best gravy I have ever had, even before I was vegan.
I made this tonight as stated but used 2 1/2 tbsp cornstarch instead of flour - mix the cornstarch with a bit of water to make a smooth paste, then slowly drizzle in while stirring, and heat until thickened. It was great!
this is the first gravy recipe i've tried since going vegan three years ago, and let me tell you - it was well worth the wait. i didnt have any soy sauce in the fridge; so i left it out this time around...but it was still delicious. i couldn't get my flour to mix in properly so if anything it was a bit clumpy, but the flour gooed together to form a tofu-y texture and with the gravy flavor absorbed in it, it added an extra "meat substitute" to the dish i was making, which was a pleasant surprise. next time i won't be lobbing my flour in like i did this time (i was in a rush) so hopefully it'll have the creamy gravy texture that i desire.
This is the bomb! It's first time I've ever made gravy and it was easy and delicious, thanks for sharing. I used gluten free (garbanzo bean) flour and green onions/scallions instead of onion powder. Great for Thanksgiving with Tofurkey!
do you think quinoa flour would work?
I made this gravy twice in last week. It's very good. Happy with finding this recipe.
