Kung "POW" Tofu
1 pound firm tofu, frozen, thawed, drained, and cubed
2 tablespoons oil (I used vegetable oil)
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup tamari or soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar (I used molasses)
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water
1/2 cup onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
steamed rice, to serve
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
1. Heat oil over medium-high heat and add the tofu. Fry the tofu, turning every couple of minutes, until golden on all sides. Drain on paper towels. Add onions to skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, then add garlic for another minute.
2. In a small bowl, mix together the water, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, crushed red pepper and cornstarch.
3. Add fried tofu and sauce to the skillet and cook for another few moments until your sauce has thickened up.
4. Serve over steamed rice, and sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top.
Let me know what you think, and be gentle I bruise easily!
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Yum, I whipped up this sauce last night for a vege stirfry. Cooked a whole, finely chopped onion with about four big cloves of garlic and a tablespoon of sesame seeds, added all the pre-mixed liquid, simmered for a few minutes till it was nice and thick and then poured it into a jug and set aside while I gave the veges a light stirfry, then poured the sauce back over to warm up. Went down extremely well with my very hungry family.
Pretty good indeed ;)b I used sesame oil, and added red bell pepper (the first from our garden YAY) and mushrooms. I would recommend using low-sodium soy sauce, as this was pretty salty, even with that^ though that could just be me, because I have preggers taste-buds right now. I also added cashews, though only my portion. My 2 year old sucked it down and asked for more, so I guess this will be a regular thing in the house now. Thank you for posting the recipe.

loved this recipe! it was so easy to make and sooo good. thanks!
This was very easy to make but mine turned out very salty. I even used reduced sodium tamari. Maybe less tamari would work?
Yea I use low salt in mine, I used a general ingred. for which you can make your own adjustments, sorry it was too salty for ya, but use low sodium, i promise its wicked good!
I used Sesame Oil instead of Olive or vegetable oil and also used white wine vinegar instead. I also added Peanuts, which I believe made the dish that much better. It's a good recipe, easy to make too.

When I make this I use about 5 tbsp braggs instead of the recommended amount and mine turns out really nice.

I can't believe that even though I have said good things about this in threads and eat this all the time that I have not reviewed it yet. It is amazing! Very simple to make and really tasty. I don't fry my tofu though I bake it then throw it in my stir fry pan w/ the other stuff.
This has become a regulal meal in my home. We love it!!! Thanks so much!!! ;)b
I made this tonight and it turned out great! I added in some broccoli and based on another review, I doubled the cornstarch with water to make the sauce thicker. YUM! Thanks for the recipe.
