Morning Mocha Kick
1/2 cup iced coffee concentrate (**see recipe below)
1 scoop of soy protein powder
1/2 tablespoon coco powder (more or less depending on taste)
1 cup soy milk of choice
1 cup of ice
Blend together all the ingredients.
Other variations:Throw in some almond butter or throw in some mint or take out the coco powder and make your favorite coffee flavor.
**Iced Coffee Concentrate:
Put a pound of coarse ground coffee in a 2 quart pitcher (I find that the better organic beans freshly ground before use gives best flavor).
Fill pitcher with filtered cold water; stir it around.
Let it sit for 12 hours.
Strain all the water through a coffee filter into a clean container. You will then have a nice coffee concentrate.
Use concentrate to make iced or hot coffee. Mix with water in a 1 to 3 ratio. For example, 1/2 cup concentrate to 1 1/2 cups water
SO HOW'D IT GO?
The coffee concentrate lasts 2 to 3 weeks in the fridge.
If you concerned about it going bad on you before you use it, try this. I make a couple batches at a time so I have it around since its kind of time consuming (12 hrs)
take a ice cube tray use a 1 cup measure and split the cup of concentrate up over 4 cubes and freese. After frozen pop the coffee cubes out and put into a freezer bag and use as needed.
There was a mistake between the recipe and what was put on this web site. You should use 1 lb of coffee to 2 quarts of water in a pitcher. This should leave you with around 7 cups of concentrate. Depending on how strong you like it if you use 1/2 cup of concentrate in your smoothie it will give you around 14 smoothies.
And of course after making all of this mess for so long I find out there are actual cold brew systems out there by Toddy that make it much easier.
How long does the coffee concentrate last?? I want to make it, yet don't want it to go bad! Thanks.
