Really Good Vegan Raisin Scones

What you need:

2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon turbinado sugar
1/4 cup margarine, softened
1/2 cup raisins
3/4-1 cup nondairy milk

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in margarine until crumbles form.
2. Stir in milk and raisins. Drop a spoonful (or make them into cute shapes, like the hearts I made this morning) onto an ungreased baking sheet.
3. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until just brown on top.
Source of recipe: I adapted these from a biscuit recipe on this website; I am sure one could play with the spices/ flavorings here. Please let me know how they turn out!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I haven't tried this yet because I don't like raisins. Is there a way I could make the scones without raisins? Do I just take them out or what?
Please respond. Thanks.

So I made these again, this time using 3/4 cup of ground flax seed in place of the margarine, and I think they came out even better - nice and really firm, but not dry (they'll be best eaten with jam or a beverage, but hey, that's a scone for you, hee hee), and easy to shape into cute little triangles. ;) I did have to increase the soy milk by 1/4 cup though, but no biggie. This recipe rules - it makes enough to last a couple days, it's tasty, it's healthy, it doesn't use up five million ingredients, and it's so easy that it's one of those things that I can make when I'm bored. Thanks again for sharing!

these were very easy to make, especially for a quick morning breakfast. instead of using the margarine, i used about 2 oz of applesauce. i had to bake them longer in turn, but the applesauce seemed to sink into the middle and created a fluffy cake-like texture. i halved this recipe and it still came out great, making 3  big and 5 small scones for me.

These are awesome and easy - two things I like when baking! I added 1/4 cup of sliced almonds and made a sugar topping with 1 tsp raw sugar and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, which I sprinkled on top before baking. These will be great for breakfast tomorrow with some fruit and soy milk! :)

These were really good and soooooo easy to make.
Mine ended up being quite crumbly, but I think that's coz I used artificail sweetener instead of sugar - it didn't ruin the taste so I don't care!
I added some glacé cherries and vanilla essence.

Comment from my (non-vegan bf):  These are really good. Can you make some next time we have guests. They'd be nice to have on a plate to go with a cup of tea.

Now that IS a compliment coming from him!
Well done and thank you!

These scones were delicious ! I used half whole wheat pastry flour and half unbleached also used Earth Balance shortening for a healthier scone. I added about a teaspoon of cinnamon and an extra tablespoon of sugar and used dried cranberries as well as raisins.

I patted the dough lightly into a circle and made 9 wedge shaped scones which I sprinkled with sugar before baking at 400 degrees. They came out nice and flaky, soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Perfect!

They keep well too. After a night in the freezer they were still soft and tasty. They are especially good reheated in a 350 degree oven. Before making them I found some good information on how to make scones. Thank you for this great recipe!

This is a really great recipe.  I've made them for lots of nonvegans and were very well received.  My fav combo so far has been to substitute raisins with chopped up dried apricots and sliced almonds.  I also add in vanilla flavoring, nutmeg, and cinnamon b/c I love this flavor combo.  Turned out really well!
