Sesame Tofu 'n Scallions
1 16 oz. package of firm/extra firm tofu
5-6 tablespoons sesame/vegetable oil (really any oil that you'd like)
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons German Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon vegan "honey" (other sweeteners could include brown rice syrup or maple syrup)
½ to 3/4 cup scallions
In a small mixing bowl or measuring cup, add the 3 tablespoons oil, mustard, soy sauce and sweetener of your choice. Mix together well.
Pat your tofu dry and make 4-5 slices, which you can then cut in half as well.
In a medium sized skillet, add the other 2-3 tablespoons oil and put on medium heat.
Place the tofu on the skillet and cook on high-medium heat. Continue frying tofu until it's a light-golden brown color. At this point you can add your sesame marinade and pour into the pan over the tofu.
After the tofu has cooked in the marinade for a few minutes you can add the scallions and cook for another couple of minutes. Serve and enjoy.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Very tasty but, to me, it didn't taste like any sesame tofu I've ever had. Too mustardy.
Per the suggestions in the other reviews, I cut the oil and it still tasted good. Will make this again.
Happily surprised.
As I was mixing the honey and dijon mustard, I thought 'ohh I am NOT going to feel well tonight' but this was actually good!
I would however, cut the oil in half.
No one needs that much oil in their life.
I had this over brown rice and with a side of steamed veggies.
This is yummy! I toss some sesame seeds over the tofu before I serve (to myself) for a little more sesame flavor and to make it prettier.
