Yummy Whole Wheat Crackers
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegan buttery spread (such as Earth Balance)
2/3 cup plain nondairy milk (I use soy)
salt, to taste
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Combine the flour, sugar and salt. Cut in the butter and mix until you have a coarse meal.
2. Slowly blend in the milk until you have a dough that will hold together. Divide the dough into 2 pieces for rolling.
3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/8" thickness. Sprinkle with salt and roll over lightly with the rolling pin again. Cut the dough into 2×2" squares. Poke each square several times with a fork.
4. Transfer squares to an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until crackers are golden brown.
Enjoy as is, or use with your favorite dip!
SO HOW'D IT GO?
I made a version of these thats a bit healthier...
Spelt flour
No sugar
No marg.
2 Tbsp of ground flax
A generous amount of sesame and caraway seeds...
Great.... Cheaper than the stuff at the health store!
Thanks
They were good, although they were way too sweet for a savoury cracker, will definitely cut back on the sugar next time
This is a tasty cracker recipe! I halved the recipe and then divided the dough, adding fenugreek + curry powder to one and onion powder + minced garlic to the other. Both are delicious! Unfortunately, I have the habit of not rolling cracker dough thin enough, so some are perfect and crispy, others more chewy. Oh well, still mighty delish.
vry good and So easy! i too ued .24c sugar, then .25c of buckwheat flour and a generous handfull of flaxseed.....wonderful! i will be making these often
Cracker making tip: Oil the back of a cookie sheet & roll out crackers on it. Cut & bake right on the sheet.
Yummy! Personally I think I'll use 1/4 cup sugar next time, and I also needed to add more water to get my dough to stick... Next time I think I'll roll the dough out thinner than I did... they had the consistency of a thicker pita chip. Made with some roasted garlic hummus... YUM!!! :D
