Hidden Chicken?

*Blerg* I started to eat a rice noodle soup thing--I checked out all the ingredients and there was NOTHING listed that was un-vegan--but after eating 1/4 of it, I'm starting to feel a little nauseous and I'm getting a head ache--I wonder if the "seasoning" packet failed to mention it had some kind of meat or dairy product in it--Erg! I'm super unhappy about my soup experience now!

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

MSG has that affect on me. In all its hidden forms as well... http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html

Yuckers. You poor thing.  :-\

I find it bizarre how they sneak meat-related ingredients into e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. Even if someone likes meat, why would they put some in every single meal and snack they eat?!  ???

Yeah... and MSG under all its sneaky names.  >:(

Cuz meat makes ya a MAN!  No, I don't know.  That just seems to be the attitude where I'm at.

I don't know why the title of this thread made me think of VHZ taking Liberty Chicken on the bus in a sling...the Hidden Chicken!

Chicken Run...or at least, Chicken Ride...
("She's got a chicken to ride, she's got a chicken to ri-hi-hide...")

Nobody in here but us chickens...

How do I get out of this chicken outfit??

OK, anna needs a nap, I guess...

CAPTURE: I am not mocking you, just following the thread that popped loose in my brain...

;D-Don't worry Yabbit--I won't call the Mod's this time ;D

Oi! Lat night was rough! I felt so sick--if I had health ins. I would have gone to the hospital! My stomach was killing me, I had a headache, I was freezing cold even though i was under layers of blankets and a heating pad! My roomate, the nursing student, took my temperature and it wouldn't go up beyond 97 degrees! I feel better this morning, but my stomach is still a little yuck  :-\ I guess even when you read the lables you can't be safe! To say the least I won't be buyingthat soup again!

Thanks everyone :)

Probably MSG.

As for hidden meat, it can show up under some innocuous sounding names.  "Natural flavoring" is the most upsetting one for me.

You will see MSG show up under names like "flavoring," "seasoning," and various other sneaky titles.  It's pretty ubiquitous in lots of cuisines worldwide.  It's supposedly delicious for most people (it makes my tongue numb and I can taste it for hours, so I am not fond) and the majority of people have immunity to its brain-crushing headache powers, to which I am also subject.

Is MSG made from soy? I think I read it is...it makes me feel yuck too--headache, sluggishness, general muscular malaise (a feeling like you're going to get a charleyhorse any second--but you never do...), pasty tongue---I always feel like my mouth is coated with Elmer's Glue for hours afterward, and I am thirsty for hours afterward too.

The one Chinese restaurant here in town that has vegetarian dishes doesn't seem to use much if any MSG in their dishes, but the run-of-the-mill cheapo Chinese places (of which there are far too many locally, I wonder how they manage to stay open) use waaaay too much. All of their sauces taste basically the same: soysauce, chicken broth and MSG. Blergh. :P

I think MSG is from seaweed.

As for soy making you gay... wow, that makes so much sense, since I'm totally gay for soy!

Apparently it comes from soy, corn, or wheat. Or at least some of it does.

glutamate comes in alot of forms, natural and otherwise...seaweed has a "natural" form. apparently, it comes from the breakdown of something or other (plants and animals? not sure).
but it wont neccessarily be labeled if its natural.

i sometimes get sick even from something w/ just too much salt...esp ramen type things. i will get massive headaches and feel so nauseas and bloated. it seems like the abundance of water in the soup doesnt help either....it gives me gas pains sometimes.
i find it helps to roll around on my exercise ball.

Why thank you! My mummy made it for me. Tee hee.  :D 8) :D
Sadly it (and I) only actually made it through the dress rehearsal of the play, since I went and broke my arm.  ::)
