I am blatantly stealing this thread from the PPK because I like it. It's a thread that makes you feel happy as you realize how much you've learned. All you have to do is finish the sentence:
"Before I was veg*n, I didn't know...."
....how poorly egg-laying chickens are treated.
....how hideous dairy is for your body.
....that you can get protein from SO many other sources than meat or dairy.
....that you don't need eggs and butter to bake.
Your turn! DO IT.
... that vitamins can be non-vegan :P
... that vegetables can actually sometimes maybe be tasty
...that tofu could possibly be yumbles. ::)
...um, um, I'm sure there's more... they'll come to me... *scratches head*
That mushrooms are full of protien.
That you could make baked goods without eggs.
That seitan even existed.
...that there is such a thing as non-vegetarian cheese
... that farm animals use 60% of the worlds grains
...that wheat gluten existed
...what the heck tempeh ( I think i spelt that wrong) was
... that you can make your own yogurt
... that you can make rice/almond/soy milk yourself
...that the only things you can't make as a vegan is meringue
...that the only things you can't make as a vegan is meringue
...or souffle, right? :>
another:
...that Joaquin Phoenix was a cool vegan dude... LOL
that jello was made with animal bones and cartiledge!!!
ewww!
about true nonviolence and compassion.
...how to cook.
Here here, me too!
I honestly didn't know you could actually live without eating meat. That book "You don't need meat" changed my life for the better!
...vegetarian food is more fun to cook and tastes better
that Indian and Ethiopian foods could be as good as sex...seriously, I cook that well. ^-^
... that there was a life outside of mac 'n' cheese and nachos
... that compassionate people are sexy
... that I can take care of myself and the planet too
... that nutritional yeast is super tasty
... that cupcakes from VCTOTW sell better than regular cupcakes at bake sales
... how much the world needs to change
I just thought of one more:
...that I LOVE brussel sprouts!
Before I was vegan, I didn't know that there was a recipe for tofu that didn't go "buy tofu, keep in fridge 6 months, toss tofu in the trash".
Before I was vegetarian, I didn't know that I would feel sooo much better without meat, eggs and dairy!
......that vegans were so cool! 8-)
...the cruelty that I was consuming, and the extent to which that consumption was impacting my being.
-that im pretty darn intollerant of milk and milk protien.
-that i was contributing to animal suffering even though i didnt eat meat (eggs and dairy)
-the extent of animal cruelty and the laws set up to protect the purpotrators of the abuse.
-that vegans were NOT crazy zealots (b/c i didnt know eggs and dairy were bad, i thought they were unnecessarily restrictive)
-that i could totally live without cheese and be even happier for it.
-that I could have really regulal, pleasant bowel movements. ;)
-wheat gluten and nut yeast existed and are great!
-that places like vegweb existed.
-that I could stand my ground and intellegently debate the topic of animal wellfare, world sustainability and he ethics of eating or not eating meat, eggs, dairy and even honey.
-that Id turn into a cry baby ever time i saw something even remotly sad about animals.
(spell check is not working...sorry guys...)
that Indian and Ethiopian foods could be as good as sex...seriously, I cook that well. ^-^
ooohhhh yeeeeaaaah.

I need to be able to cook that well.
Before I went vegan, I didn't know..
-that suffering in the dairy industry is just as horrible, or worse, as that in the slaughter industry
-that I COULD be vegan
-that I WOULD be happier and healthier
-just how many resources are used by animals used for our food
-about vegweb!
-that it would allow me to love cooking even more than I already did
-how many ingredients are animal based
-just how 'horrible' a vegetarian I actually was, for so many years
Lots more!
just how unnatural and limited in scope the standard american diet is
