I am blatantly stealing this thread from the PPK because I like it. It's a thread that makes you feel happy as you realize how much you've learned. All you have to do is finish the sentence:
"Before I was veg*n, I didn't know...."
....how poorly egg-laying chickens are treated.
....how hideous dairy is for your body.
....that you can get protein from SO many other sources than meat or dairy.
....that you don't need eggs and butter to bake.
Your turn! DO IT.
... that I could cook. Sort of.
... that cupcakes from VCTOTW sell better than regular cupcakes at bake sales
we should test this. this should be a fact hehe.
Before I went veg*an I didn't know just how crappy I really felt. I was totally lethargic and didn't even realize it. All that rotting animal flesh was just weighing me down. It gags me to think of the things I used to eat.
that I could be vegan and still be kinda fat. ha! :-D
I didn't know any of the above, I was pretty ignorant 16 years ago, but I've learned a lot since then. (I've had several lapses and can't claim veg*sm that long).
I didn't know jello, gum and marshmellows weren't vegetarian. I didn't know about animal rennet being in cheese. I didn't know about the cruety on my plate.

in college i worked with a vegan girl and it was the first time i had ever heard the term. i was one of those people who said " but how do you eat cookies without egg in them?!"
never thought I could be a pregnant or breastfeeding vegan.....twice now! gulp!
....that beauty products can sometimes have animal ingredients in them (really! I had no idea!)
....that kiwi fruit is a decent source of calcium
....that oreos are (sometimes) vegan

KMK: i am "uncomfortable" with the amount of time you are spending on the PPK. at first it was okay, but now that you're stealing thread ideas... i think you need an intervention :-D ;)

I knew about VW before I went vegan. VW was the main thing which led me to go vegan. Yay VW!!! :)>>>

I had no idea that factory farming produced more pollution that all other industries combined. Gross!
I also had no idea that the rainforest was being destroyed to make room to grow grain....to feed to cows... instead of hungry people...arg....

Why? All the other fruits don't get fruit after them. Tomatofruit..applefruit...strawberryfruit... Which actually does make more sense..since there are apple blossoms (before they are the fruit)..apple leaves...etc. Why just the kiwi? ???

what about jackfruit, grapefruit...I cant think of any others...but I did have a thought. If i ever discover a fruit, I shall call it a "humble" fruit...so that people can make humble pie! :-D
