NVR: Where is the place place you have ever been to?

Just a poll, I wanted to get some ideas for a vacation sometime in the future and want to know where are the best places you'all have ever been to?

For me it is dificult to say, Alaska definately, but where in Alaska?  McCarthy, Alaska.  It is this little bity town in the heart of Wrangell St. Elias National Park.  Beautiful place to go with Mount Blackburn and the Root glacier overlooking the town.  It is small town, population 50 in winter, 300 in summer with a definate small town feel.  It is isolated only accessable by plane, or by means of a 60 mile long, pot hole, rough dirt/gravel road.

That is my story, what is yours?

My favorite places:

- San Francisco - just got back from a 4-night vacation, LOVED IT!!! Very scenic, lots to do, LOTS of vegan options
- Amsterdam - just amazing - great vibe, can walk/bike everywhere, canals are very pretty, lots to do
- Paris - nuff said  ;)
- London - fun, lots to do, but pricey
- Croatia - really beautiful beaches, it's gorgeous!
- NYC - lots to do
- Germany - anywhere - I lived there for 2+ years, it's beautiful, people are friendly, lots of old historic towns to visit

I LOVE to travel, can't you tell!!  ;D

Taos or Santa fe , New Mexico have been my favorite places. I really liked taos because it's small (and I wanted to see if I could hear the fabled "Taos hum".....I couldn't LOL) Santa Fe is artsy and pretty but not over crowded like Albuquerque, didn't like that place. Never cared for the big city thing.

Ft. Collins, CO is really pretty and close to the rocky mtns!!! LOL  But I'm biased...I live here. :D

I find it interesting that most mention cities, so far.  I am a National Park person myself, one of my lifelong goals is to visit every National Park in the country.  It really isn't a "cold" thing I love so much as a "mountain" thing.

But hey, to each their own.

Most beautiful place I've ever been is the Aran Islands off of the west coast of Ireland.  Incredible!

Glacier National Park. Seriously, everyone should go there before they have to rename it (as a result of lack of glaciers... :'( ).

Newfoundland, Canada.

I admit I've never been to the east coast of the island, only the west coast. But ALL of the west coast, all the way from Port-aux-Basques to L'ans aux Meadows. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The people are awesome, too, but I'm biased, as we've only visited friends and family there.

Nova Scotia's beautiful, too.

Heck, why not throw all of the Atlantic and Maritime provinces in there, to boot.

Bangkok, Thailand.  I lived there as a kid.  I'm hoping to go back a year from now but having there in over 35 years.  I can still see and smell it and want to go back in the worst way.

Cape Town, South Africa.  As long as you stay away from the touristy stuff.  The few nights we spent camping in the middle of a game preservation were awesome!  Climbing Table Mountain is extremely fun and beautiful as well!  I learned on that trip that getting lost is sometimes the best thing that can happen when you're on vacation.  I really wish the whole area were not so commercialized.  That would be my only complaint.

I have never seen a country that cared so much about the people in it, even if you are a foreigner.  Nothing but smiles and conversations.  They were eager to learn about the states and we were eager to learn about South Africa so there were a lot of very interesting conversations with the locals.

San Fran is amazing.
Driving down the coast of California is fantastic.
New Mexico is cool.
Washington DC is interesting.

I've never been anywhere exotic or to Europe, so I'd like to go to Hawaii and Europe, specifically Germany, Italy, and Spain.

My friend and her husband are on a round-the-world tour and just posted about Greece.  They went to Meteora, which looks awesome.

I know you said mountains were more your gig, but I must say Tulum, Mexico was amazing.  It was super laid-back, gorgeous, and near to ruins, ceynotes, etc...I can still close my eyes and remember what it was like swinging on a hammock, looking at the bluest and calmest sea.  sigh...

Mountains:  I'd biased-ly say Lake Tahoe.  I used to live there and I love, love, loved it.  From what my friends say, redevelopment has taken over, but I'm sure you can still find plenty of lovely spots to hike, bike, camp, ski, snowboard, whatever...awesome.

I've heard a lot of great things about Quebec.  If only I spoke un poquito of French.
