Reasons to smile
I guess not everyone needs to find a reason, but... What made you smile and/or laugh today?
My first LOL of the day was caused by this LOLdog.
I went to the uniform laundry room at work yesterday, to ask if I could try on a size smaller in my trousers. And they fit! The laundry lady asked me if I needed a new shirt, too, so I tried the next size down in that, too. And it fit! Wow. My pants had been slipping down my hips a little for weeks, but last week they got ridiculously slippy. So happy to have confirmation that my body's changing shape/size a little. :iloveyou:
Humming along to the occasional good song at work... it's amazing how much it can lift my mood. ;)b
Overhearing customers' reactions when they can't decide whether flowers are real or not. It's hilarious either way - when they think fake are real, or real are fake. ;D
going to see your sister whom you haven't seen properly since Christmas AND going to a protest outside the Nestlé headquarters with her AND then planning to have lunch in a vegan/veggie restaurant even though said sister isn't veggie.
One of my books arrived at the library!
And, having given up on stupid Little Dorrit, I am really enjoying the one I'm currently reading. :)
Don't feel bad, BR. Dickens was a hack. Seriously. He got paid by the line, and installments. That's why his books are so long: make em laugh, make em cry, make em wait. He wrote a lot of pot-boilers, and very fast which means he didn't really pay attention. AFAIC (concerned, that last word is), "Oliver Twist" is good but a lot of the rest of it is just makeweight for the Strand or Blackwood's magazine.
I can. not. Bear. "Pickwick Papers," for the record. It's bloody boring, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Not to mention "Nicholas Nickleby."
THANK you, YG!
I have returned to my original conclusion that Dickens is crap. Which may make me a bad English major, and a bad writer but I DON'T CARE BECAUSE IT'S CRAP, CRAP I TELL YOU.
Which is funny, because I liked "Vanity Fair" by W.M. Thackeray ... and it's written like a serial, too.
BTW, BR--avoid "Great Expectations" at all costs. David Copperfield is bearable. GE is not. And the movies are even worsse. Especially that modern one with one of Hollywood's blond Ken Doll wannabees in it....can't remember his name. It's a modernised version of GE with Al Pacino in it. Now that is crap.
That would be Ethan Hawke as Pip, Gwyneth Paltrow as Estelle, and Al Pacino as the convict.
CRAP I SAY UNTO YOU ONCE AGAIN.
i was running late to work today - and oddly enough, heading to work outside the traditional "rush hour" grind period - felt so wonderfully liberating,
normally i catch my bus at the park and ride but as it was later in the day - that bus no longer runs - so i had to walk from my regular park and ride to the next adjacent park and ride - about 10-15 minutes over. the walk was so enjoyable, taking in the sun and nature - it just felt like a marvelous break from the norm!
Banker Rescues Darling Ducklings (with video)
my brother's girlfriend getting a job interview for Monday - gave me such a buzz, now just crossing fingers it goes well.. :)
I just had a 3 hour phone conversation with a new boy. We are meeting tomorrow. Details (if there are any) in the MA tomorrow. :)
I apologise - I have a one-track mind today... reasons to smile:
Getting over my doubts about my new relationship, and wanting more.
A feeling of silly excitement about seeing a certain guy after three days of not.
Being totally distracted from working all day by spying on / smiling at / talking to said guy.
Being complimented on my newly henna'd hair and my favourite jewellery (which 'matches my eyes') by said guy. :)>>>
;D
Fourthly, finding out that last week's profits/sales for my flower department were reasonable, despite a week of horrendous flower prices and lack of creativity and being in a state of chronic distraction.
Being told by someone I really admire professionally that I'm at the top end of skill level for recent graduates.
Then being told by the same person (upon looking at my CV) that they have never actually seen final marks that good from my course. Which they used to run. From anyone. Ever.
The opportunity to work for/with this person, at a better rate, with better support and better development opportunities than any other current provider of employment, and a focus towards what I want to do with my own career.
I really needed this today :)
Dear Theo,
I envy you, in a good way.
Beautiful. Young. Top of her class.
And she lives in a country with English-language libraries.
I want your life for one day.

kudos to you for doing that - it's a pain but so important. on downside is - if there's ever some type of event (fire, flood, etc) - gosh - hopefully not, but just saying - then your data is still at risk.
there are many online places that offer 2gb of data backup - absolutely for free (mozy is one of those sites). if you have more then 2gb of data, some places are pretty inexpensive, mozy charges about $5 or $6 /mo for ~unlimited~ backup.. of course, if you have a dial up connection - it might not be worth it.
my reason to smile - i'm such a geek that i'm still so excited over the de-pulped kale smoothie i had last night and i'm looking forwarding to have another tonite and using the pulp to mix in with edamame burgers that i plan to make.
yes - food makes me smile :)
Behold Heli's one-track mind again! :P
A sneaky kiss in the produce chiller at work when nobody else was around. (It took ALL DAY for there to be a moment when nobody was around. I waited... and waited... ::) ;D)
Kisses and beers and embraces at a nice, quiet Irish bar. ^-^ (Well, quiet since it's a Wednesday, I guess.)
Heli, I swear we were separated at birth. I dreamt of hot guys kissing me just before I woke up this AM...the time difference fits. Get outta my head!!
("Corsican Twins," anyone?)
