sad sad day
ugh, this has been such ahard day... a few weeks ago, my sister found out one of her dogs had cancer. It was only a matter of weeks where she went from having some UTI problems, to major swelling of the lymph nodes that went to her spine, stomach problems, incontinence, etc.... even since yesterday, she apparently took a turn for the worse.
So i managed to get out there today to say goodbye. we took her this afternoon to put her to sleep.
She kept going up and down...sometimes she seemed so aware, and even greeted me at the door, then shed be so tired and her breathing so labored...
we took her for a "truck ride" to the vets...it was one of her favorite things, to be in the truck...
but when we arrived, she barked at the nurses, tried to get up, etc....
it made us all second guess what we were doing.
I think we all are feeling like we did this too soon...but i dunno. It all just happened so fast. Either decision feels like it would have been selfish.
This is the first time where i really really feel like we jumped the gun.
Sophie was just an amazing dog... she had such a rough start in life and my sis and BIL gave her 10yrs of a spoiled life. She was so smart, could understand a good conversation, as long as it was about "truck rides", "walks", "bones", "mommy, daddy or aunties" or "supertreats". lol.
Sorry, i just had to vent a bit, i lived w/ them for a few years, so i was very close to her, one of the first she allowed in the "pit bull club". (the club where you didnt get attacked from her! very exclusive)
It was just so hard and too fast.
*she is the dark pit bull :'(in my profile pics.*
or, hopefully these liinks work:

aww, what a sweet girl sophie was. it sounds like you did what was best for her. it is a hard call to make, but i think it is better to make it a little early than a little late. i'm soo sorry for the loss of your friend (or neice?) :'(
I totally agree, and so beautiful (in that sweet/fierce sort of way). :'(
Sophie is a beauty. That's a great picture of her on the chair.
I'm going through the same dilemma of knowing when it's time without rushing it. You can only do your best, and your and your sister's choices were made out of love for Sophie. If Sophie let you in the club, then she knows you love her. I'm sorry for your loss, but it also sounds like you and your family made her one happy dog.
:flower2:
(((((LucidAnne))))) :'(
Sophie was beautiful! How lucky she was to be a part of an amazing family for 10 years and that you were a part of her life as well.
It's always hard to say goodbye to a loved one, but know that she won't suffer any more. I agree with baypuppy that it's better to do it too soon than too late.
Sending lots of love your way :)>>>
She was a very pretty girl and I am sorry for the loss your family is enduring. I know you and your sister's family have made the right choice, it came from your hearts... You would be surprised (or perhaps not) how often pets are made to suffer to the last by owners that cling to ill founded hopes. (we all want to believe in happy outcomes) I used to volunteer at an animal hospital an ex of mine worked at and have seen some of the best and the worst there is. I just want you to feel confident and even proud that you all acted in her interest rather than your own. There is no harder a choice you could have made, I know.
What a beautiful girl. I'm so sorry about your loss.

I'm so sorry LA! (((((((((HUGS))))))))) I know how hard this kind of decision can be to make--just try to remember how much love you and your family gave her--I know it's hard right now, but ultimatly the decision would have been made, you probably saved her a few weeks of suffering.
Much love to you!!! Let me know if you need anything!!!
I'm sorry to hear about you guys losing her. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. I think it was nice that you guys were able to put her down BEFORE she was in too much pain and was very uncomfortable. I know it must be hard, but I think you did the right thing. Hugs to you.
She was beautiful. I'm so sorry... I wish you a peaceful heart.
Bless her heart, what a beautiful girl!
I am so sorry for your loss...BIG hugs to you and your sister's family too! :'(
You know, each and every time I lose a friend, without fail I second guess my decision too. I can assure you that you guys did the right thing for Sophie. And all the love she received from her family gave her years and years of happiness. I always say that even 100 years with us wouldn't be long enough.
Be gentle with yourself...
So sorry for you and your sister and brother-in-law. It's hard to lose a beloved pet.
Thanks everyone....i guess you are right that it is better to do it sooner, rather than later, before she got too bad. and at least we were all able to be there with her. she was really like a child to them/ us.
i've just been hugging my dogs extra hard since yesterday.
thanks again for your kind thoughts.
I'm sorry, LucidAnne. :(
i'm so sorry, la..
It's so hard to lose someone you love, human or dog! You and your family are in my prayers.
