20 minuts ago I learned that my air conditioning unit is an antiquated 10 seer with a rusted out coil that leaked all its R22 ozone-damaging Freon into the atmosphere and I need a new unit for $4,000.00....my landlord also learned this and he was not happy. I hope I don't learn tomorrow that my rent is going up!

It's a statement of intent for residents of Germany to host people from other countries and assure the government that they are financially responsible for them and whatnot. We thought that it was going to cover me but it turns out that it's for people from countries that aren't normally allowed into Germany in the first place. I don't know, I'm bad at explaining it. Basically I should have just applied for a residency visa in the first place.

I learned that it is possible to get along (at least professionally) with somebody who is your total opposite.
My boss and I had a rough start because we are SO different! I had no idea that poeple like him existed until yesterday, really. I was talking about going on a vacation this summer to Acadia National Park. He asked if that was an park with rides. At first I was a little confused, then I realized he thought I was talking about an amusement park, like Six Flags or something. I said no, it is a national park. He looked at me confused, how can anyone now know what a national park was? :o There was a moment of silence as this realization sunk in that he really did not understand such things as national parks. So I said, you know, like Yellowstone is a national park. He was like "oh". I said, national parks have natural wonders to see. And there are other things too, like about a month back I tried to stir up conversation with him and asked him, if he could own any type of car, what would it be? He said a Porch. I was like, "oh". A Porch, why would anyone want that? He asked me then what I would own, I said "a Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel with a 5th wheel towing capability". He said "oh", then "why"? I said, to tow a horse trailer.
Wow, we are like totally opposite ends of the rainbow!

I learned that my dog Jonah loves brussels sprouts. Usually when I drop a vegetable, he'll snatch it, but I'll find it lying around somewhere later. Not with the brussels - he gobbles them up. Weird.

I've learned that shopping for almost two weeks straight suuuucks. My mother just cannot find a bathing suit that, well, suits her. I've also learned that I am more patient than I gave myself credit for.

I learnt that the salary I have been offered on NZ should be enough for us both to survive on for a while, meaning that there's less pressure on N taking any old shite job and can look for a 'proper' one.
