What DVD are you watching lately?

I have BBC's Persuasion on, but I can't really get into. I've heard thought that BBC's Sense & Sensibility is good. Of course I"ve watched the Ang Lee Emma Thompson version which is superb... I may get it this week to see  :P

AC, where do these random movie recommendations come from? You always rate movies 2 and 3 stars. If I watched that many bad movies, I don't think I'd like watching any movies!

haha! I'm hard on my ratings. 4 has to be pretty awesome, and 5 is like lovelove. I don't go by Netflix recommended ratings, because they are often not right..so I just choose based on what I'm in the mood for. I like watching different movies, so I'm ok with not loveloving everyone! P will pretty much only watch horror, and not many horror movies are 4 or 5. 3 is like ..that was enjoyable.

Netflix is usually spot-on with the recommendations for me. Maybe if you took a better RATING SYSTEM, netflix could give you better suggestions :P

I don't want them!! I have to rate for 2 people, though..so it looks pretty crazy.

SILLY!  Netflix recommended for me the movie Wall-E ... because I enjoyed the movie District 9.  It also recommended Barney & Friends because I enjoyed Fraggle Rock.  I did not watch either recommendation.  Should I have?  Based on my preferences?

No doubt, perfect matches.

Netflix really only ever recommends documentaries or British crime tv shows to me.... neither do I ever watch.

With the new system, what netflix "recommends" is crap. You have to look at the estimated star rating. Those are almost always spot on for me.

Manhattan Murder Mystery
Too neurotic for me.

I agree. I didn't find it funny at all, just annoying.

I seem to like most British movies...

Wild Target
Pretty cutesy, but still unique and entertaining. Good acting, funny moments. 4/5

Hotel Splendide
Loved it! Dark, gross, and pretty twisted, but so different! I thought it was funny and mesmerizing. Unique story. Great all around. 5/5

Bunny and the Bull
Also liked this quite a bit. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, and is extremely creative. Pretty dark, but humorous. Interesting story. 4.5/5 (more 5 than 4)

Winnebago Man
I guess I missed out on this whole video deal. I didn't know of angry rv guy, so this was a bit lost on me. Kinda interesting story, but very amateur documentary, and meh. 3/5

I watched the old classic Leave Her to Heaven a few nights ago.  Good, but not great

The Housemaid: Pretty good. There were moments of greatness in this film but I believe a couple scenes could have been cut out. 3.75/5

Midnight Cowboy: Loved this. Hated Dustin Hoffman's character in this, though. 4.5/5

Nights of Cabiria: One of Fellini's more watchable films. Really liked this one in all its simplicity. 5/5

Slaughter High: Typical 80's revenge slasher. Some cool kills but not as bloody as I like. Still good, though. 3/5

Friday the 13th (original): This is awesome. And how sexy is a young Kevin Bacon?! 5/5

The Unloved
This is one where I should have listened to all the reviews..which said: BORING. Wow. Seriously like 1 1/2 hours looking into this child's face. I get that it's trying to paint a picture, but really. Accents made it difficult to understand, and I didn't understand the interactions with the mother. This is not a movie, this is following a child around. 2/5

I'm getting ready to watch If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front. Again.

Over the past week, I've been tossing around ideas of how to step off the beaten paths we've created when resolving our problems. This documentary addresses stepping off the beaten path when resolving environmental issues and I love it. Great film!

I watched Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World last night and was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed it.

^^ Is that the superhero movie?

I just watched Pickaxe - The Cascadia Free State Story. Another great documentary about environmental activists using non-violent protests and hunger strikes to save the forests in Oregon and Idaho.

I've told you about Scott Pilgrim vs. the world before, Josh! Not really about superheroes but it's from a comic book series of the same name and the effects are all quite superhero-ey and kapow-ey if y'know what I mean.

Ohhhh! Ok. Yes yes..I now remember you telling me about this movie. What's the one that is about teenagers becoming superheroes? They made costumes and everything. I've not seen that one or the Scott Pilgrim movie, though.

hmmm... could the movie you're thinking of be Kick Ass? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1250777/

I haven't seen that one, but have heard good things about it.

I knew going into it that The Tree of Life wouldn't be "fun", but I'm ironing duvet covers so slow works.  It kind of reminded me of a modern-day Kurosawa film (Dreams, not Dersu Uzala).  I liked it, but I can't imagine watching it with my full attention.  The image montages were cool.
