Chocolate Chip Cookies-Like They Should Be
What you need:
3/4 cup raw sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup vegan margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4-1/3 cup applesauce (enough to equal 1 egg)
2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 (12 ounce) bag vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips
What you do:
1. Heat oven to 370 degrees Fahrenheit. Beat sugars, margarine, vanilla, and applesauce together in a large bowl.
3. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt. (Dough will be somewhat stiff). Stir in chocolate chips.
3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until light brown. Cool.
This is a recipe that my mom has been making my entire life, and I was so so so excited that they turned out so well after substituting a few things.
Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?
I used liquid egg replacer instead of applesauce and put in walnuts. Also, I used all raw sugar, no brown, and I used whole wheat flour. They're really yummy but it was hard putting them on the cookie sheet because the dough wasn't sticking together but rather crumbly. The cookies turned out fine though (a little on the crunchy side rather than chewy, but that's ok, no cookie is alike ;)). Next time I think I would put in a couple tablespoons of soymilk or soy yogurt and use white flour.
Awesome.
Simply amazing.
Yet I as well added a bit of peanut butter, used 3/4 margarine, and 2/3 cup of applesause.
Still awesome, though.
5-stars :)
I used these substitutions
1) 3/4 cup of margarine instead of a cup
2) 2/3 cup of apple sauce instead of 1/3
3) and I added 2 heaping tablespoons of peanut butter
4) and I used carob in stead of chocolate chips
I love them!!
During the holidays, I try every choc chip cookie recipe I can find. These are, by FAR, the best choc chip cookies I have ever made. Thank you so, so much!
Those cookies look delicious. I hate to compare, but has anyone who has made these also made the Happy Vegan chocolate chip cookies, and if so, which do you prefer? I really like the Happy Vegan ones and have been disappointed by other recipes, so I was just curious.
I sent my husband to work with a batch of these, and I mean, HUGE batch of these, he came back with an empty box at night. everyone
This recipe was great- thanks for posting it! We didn't have very big baking trays so the cookies came out giant! Very tasty- added some cinnamon to compliment the applesauce. Everyone loved them (including non vegans). Yummmmmy!
WOW. These are wonderful! I love them and I'm going to make more!!! The only thing is that they turned out a little too crispy, did I just bake them too long???
I just made these for a party tomorrow and my family said (and I quote):
"you are not leaving the house with those..."
all though, I substituted some things...
1) 3/4 cup of margarine instead of a cup
2) 2/3 cup of apple sauce instead of 1/3
3) and I added 2 heaping tablespoons of peanut butter.
The cookie still tastes like a chocolate chip one, but there is a subtle hint of peanut butter.
Flippin' fantastic!
mmmmmm chewy and delicious! thanks.
