Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
Hello! I'm Scott and I live in Albany, NY and I'm 28. All of my relevant info that I care to reveal is on my profile, but I'd like to say that love is pretty much what motivates most aspects of my life. Whether it is love for my family, friends, a significant other, or for non-human things like animals or learning, I find that my overall happiness increases significantly when I concentrate on that love.
By the way, I loooove vegweb, and would like to thank everyone for making this an awesome place to be a part of. It has definitely changed my life already.
I enjoy cooking, but love whinging a recipe or creating my own from scratch. I also enjoy being outdoors, and experiencing nature. I love rain, snow, wind, and cold water swimming. I like to explore things that get a bad rap, and find some type of enjoyment out of it.
*I'm also very interesting in this world veg day fest that may or may not be taking place in Maryland, and would be willing to get a crew together from NY and head down there!*

Awesome Idea Camillus! If this veg day goes down, the New Yorkers should totally go down Maryland together! I like your way of thinking btw ;)
I live with my civil partner (who is omni but wants to eat all my food too!).
I work part time as a community nurse, the other half of my working week is spent doing my masters in community nursing. I love my job. I have been doing this for 2 years, prior to that I worked on a trauma unit and prior to that in the operating theatre.
I have travelled to quite a few different countries but like being at home. I go to Spain quite often and love it there (may retire there) but they don't seem to cater for non meat eaters. I will have to buy a finca and grow my own food. I want to go to Iceland and Argentina before I die.
I envy my older brother who grows all his own veg - I have no garden. But I suppose I am lucky because he does all the work and I get to eat them. Anyone tried white beetroot, black potatoes or red brussel sprouts? He likes to grow unusual veg and these are some he has tried.
I like science fiction and cooking to relax .
I have never been a big meat eater and certainly couldn't eat it if I had prepared it so I guess I was naturally vegetarian - my Mum had to nearly cremate meat before I ate it when I was a kid. I have been venturing into veganism because it is a logical progression and it excites me - I believe we could end starvation in the world if we all ate a plant based diet. This web site is a god send/life saver. I tried a vegan cheese (cheezly) and hated it and have to be convinced there is an acceptable vegan cheese.
I know where Rosemead is too! :)
I know where Rosemead it is too, too! :)
I live in San Diego, but I grew up in La Crescenta.
I bet you don't know where in LA County that is!!! ;D
I do! I'm from Burbank. We're like neighbors. ;)

Your from Burp-bank!!! ;D
I hung out over there as a teenager, as well as Glendale and Pasadena.
Just wanted to say "Welcome!" to all the newbies here. It's great to meet you all! :)
It's great to have the chance to get to know you folks... but I can't read all the posts tonight; my eyes are falling closed of their own accord!
I found VegWeb by accident a year or two ago, when I was thinking of sharing some of my most healthy recipes, from a vegetarian perspective. I never liked meat; when I was a kidling I felt like gagging when my folks tried to feed it to me. I guess something in me knew. :D
I've been having such troubles with my diet of late that I feel the need for a drastic change, back toward what's natural. It took me a while to realise just how much I can learn from this place. In the last couple of weeks, I learned that I want to go vegan too. For several good reasons, including animal welfare; and (as a student of organic horticulture) going back to simple food that I can grow myself.
Thanks to you all.
My name is Kevin. I'm 46 years old as of a few days ago. I live in New England. I run a supply operation in a huge factory that makes really amazing jet engines. I get to work with some very smart people and I enjoy my job.
Last year I was married for the second time to my lovely wife Laura who is 23. We are very happy together. We both became vegan a few months ago. We love to cook and are constantly experimenting with recipes we find here and other places. We are endless "tweakers" in the kitchen. We love to drink wine.
I enjoy a million different things. I have been a big reader all my life. I read about everything under the sun, which is all I want to know. I also love to write. I really love to think. I wish that would catch on with more people around the world and especially here in America.
I have noticed that a few people have mentioned their political leanings. I used to be a republican. Since the eighties. I apologize. GWB and his henchmen have ruined that for me forever. I'm a democrat now. I wish Al Gore would run. If he doesn't I'll probably vote for Dennis Kucinich in the primary.
My original motivation for becoming vegan was that I had a minor heart attack at the end of last November. I've learned a lot of things since then. I don't ever want to have another one. I'm convinced that I don't have to, that my heart disease can be reversed. Thank you, Firefightress for telling me about The China Study. I learned a great deal there.
I have other motivations now as well. I've always loved animals but I never knew anything about the degree of suffering they were enduring, especially in factory farms. I've seen some videos put out by PETA and others. They moved me deeply. I never want to contribute another red cent to the economic engine that drives the hellish meat, dairy and egg industries. There are other hellish industries I try not to contribute to as well but I won't list them all here.
I try to live as "green" as I can. I hope we can save the planet but frankly, I don't hold out much hope for that. I think the majority of the human race is greedy, stupid and selfish and will burn this place up rather than change their behavior. What a pity, this planet is so beautiful and incomprehensibly amazing. I suspect that human civilization is circling the drain. If you're an optimist I'm sorry to bring you down.
So now you know about .00000000000000000000000001% of what makes me tick. Glad to be here among you.
I thought it might be time to bump this again :)
Hi Taneveb, good idea. Sorry I started the new post! There goes my hope for a rep as a searcher rather than impulse poster!
http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=18220.0;topicseen <--post where I say Hello All!
The dinkfeet reference is because I didn't hit five feet tall until I was 15 or so. Also, I hung with a crowd that enjoyed the movie Spaceballs http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094012/. Within the movie, there's a chirpy little tune that goes "dink da dink dink dink...." Since Rick Moranis and I apparently shared a losing battle against gravity, "dinkfeet" ended up my nom de plume.
Oh, great! I'm a newbie here, too!
My name is Jeanette, I'm a 23 (to-be 24 on friday! yay birthdays!) year old brand-new vegetarian. As in, my boyfriend suggested it last week and I said "HOORAY!"
I moved to Baton Rouge, LA six months ago, but I grew up in West Virginia and have traveled a fair amount in my young adulthood. I love to see new places, take pictures, and visit friends and family. I'm an assistant manager for a video game store, which isn't really a very nice job at all. Retail sucks a lot. As soon as my boyfriend graduates college next year (and hopefully soon after we'll get married), I am totally quitting and finding something that takes less time and is more enjoyable. People make otherwise nice occupations a pain.
That said, I do like people, and I love learning about those who have different experiences than me. I have a MySpace page at www.myspace.com/jeanacorina and you're welcome to add me! Just send me a message so I know you're not a porn bot. ;D
I love purple. Love it. If I ever forget to make my text purple, you can bet I'll go back and modify it when I realize I didn't do it. Purple is the most splendiforous color ever, in any shade or tone. :)
This site is great! I feel like there's a lot of support for me in being completely new to the vegetarian lifestyle, and of course, being an awful cook. Thanks to everyone for already making me feel so welcome!
Oh, great! I'm a newbie here, too!

Ahhh I loooooove Purple too!!!! It's the best :D
Mahalo everyone, I'm new too!
My name is Lesly & I've been using Vegweb for years as a recipe resource. Not until I realized how stunningly awesome it would be to use the meal planner/recipe box option did I decide to join.
I'm 20 & Virgo.
I have been Veg*n since 14, Vegan since 16. I hail from Memphis, TN & currently am taking temp. residency in the Arkansas delta with my omni boyfriend/fiance/partner in mischief. We live with 4 cats, 2 rats, a turtle & a dog. I'm working towards becoming a Nurse/Midwife & am planning a move to Asheville, NC early next year.
I love traveling anywhere (most of the time) but have only just begun my international adventures (England, Ireland,Wales in 2005, hoping for Guatemala in 2008 or 09). I love baking sweets & reading books (but not simultaneously). I heart camping, hiking & spending time outdoors.
I LOVE all kinds of music but am crazy about PHISH. I also love bento & will start posting on the Flickr Vegan bento group soon!!

Oh one last thing-Dinkfeet thanks for explaining the name, I thought you were ref. to that old Nick show The Adventures of Pete&Pete "Once a dink, always a dink" :D
Oh Hi! I wanted to introduce myself too!
I'm 30 years old and I grew up in Philadelphia. I've been a vegetarian for 10 years now. My screen name comes from my double major in college (Biology and Dance). I could never choose between art and science and it's given me a chance to work in many different fields (theater production, hand therapy, and now environmental consulting). I loooove cooking and I'm on vegweb multiple times a day. I love theater, dance, reading and hanging out with my cat. ;D
Hello everyone,
My name is Richard and am 34 years old and I have been a veg*n now for the second time for about a year or so, gradually phasing into veganism with time. I grew up in England and have been in the US for about 5 years now. Started out in Columbus OH and then moved to Chicagoland where I now live with my wife, who is a vet (animal kind not Vietnam kind!) my dog Sparky and the two cats Melbie and Foo. I work as a Production Control Manager in the automotive industry is it exciting, no, do I want to do it for the rest of my life, no. In fact I am boring myself just talking about it so I will stop!
I hate the winter here in Chicago and would really love to move to the warmer states.
Sure why not.
My name is Amanda, and I was born and bred in New Jersey until I came to Europe nearly 8 years ago, and have been happily residing here since then, with no plans to go back. I spent 5 years in Brussels, and nearly 3 here in Amsterdam. I work from home, so life is pretty effin sweet right about now.
I am just getting started on my animal rights crusade, and am planning on many protests around Europe. There are certainly enough to choose from! After nearly 13 years of vegetarianism, I have finally gone back to veganism, and this looks like I'll be staying here from now on, thankyouverymuch. I don't know what I did wrong the first time, but it was such an effort and my energy was shot. This time, I'm doing it proper, and it couldn't be any easier! I don't even have to think about it, I just do it.
I live with my 2 dogs- Lola and Mylo- and my Irish boyfriend, who has quietly gone from omnivore to pescatarian on me! I can't take credit for that, though. He must have seen something amongst my books and videos to make him think twice, and next thing you know he's buying tofu products in the supermarket! You can rant and rave at people all you want, but they move at their own pace.
I've been a member of vegweb since 2003 or 2004, but remember when they made some changes and erased all of our profiles in about 2005? Yeah, thats about when I dropped the ball on vegweb. I found my old profile recently, from when I made a half-hearted attempt to get back into it in 2005: http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=profile;u=47544 How's that for a cheese smile!!!
I still have loads of things on my 'To Do with My Life' list, but for right now, this looks like it's it for the moment, and that's OK by me.
You won't see me too often on the forums, but I'll be watching you people! Oh YES! I WILL be watching you....(Wayne's world)
You can watch me too: myspace.com/dabeesknees
hmm, cant believe i never posted in this thread...well here it goes
Im Adam, 29 years old when Im not acting 12 (in good and bad ways) and I live in San Diego...and yes...its always sunny here
When Im not slaving for the man in a room full of servers, Im playing drums in bands. Musics not paying the bills, but its keeping me from hiding out in the mountains or blowing up congress. Seriously though, I have it better than many people...so I try not to complain too much.
Outside of music Im a man of leisure. I like to go out all night with friends howling at the moon, and sit around during the day and read or write or endulge whatever fancy I have that day. I think people stress themselves out way too much with alot of BS
Went vegitarian a few years back and went full vegan as of Jan 1 of this year. I cant remember how I found this site, but I am very glad I did. Great recipes, great people.
I love nature and animals, and when I see animal cruelty I get so upset it makes me want to scream and cry. Its too bad it took me so long to keep supporting such things. The benefits of being more aware of what Im putting into my body is a wonderful benefit of this as well.
I guess you could describe me as an angry hippy, who tries to keep the angry side at bay as much as possible
Hey everybody.
My name's Lindsey. I come from Upstate New York originally, but have been all over the place in my 25 years of life. I am a straight, married female. I was a vegetarian for 2 years, and I was so good that I was almost vegan, but I don't know what happened- maybe bacon- that i went back to eating meat. I don't eat much meat and would like to go back to my almost vegan diet. I am pretty healthy, with the exception of chronic respiratory infections, migraines and stomach aches- the last two are a food problem and I should know to control that. Don't know why I get respiratory infections, I got bronchitis from not treating the last one- bad idea. I like this site because it makes it easy for me to get vegetarian recipes and ideas, so that when I finally do get back to where I started, it won't be that hard to keep it up PERMANENTLY.
As for the rest of me: I work at a daycare. I don't have kids, but I'd like to and I also don't have any furbabies, but I'd like to. I had a cat for 16 years, but unfortunately she had a stroke and I had to put her to sleep :(
I like reading, poetry (writing it, collecting, reading), nature, stuff that is odd or funny and I collect cookbooks, lots of them, it's scary how many I have. I also like doing boring stuff like watch tv and surf the Internet. That's me in a nutshell.
Hi there. My name is Davetta and I am 35. I currently reside in Riverton, Wyoming with my husband and 2 children. I am applying for grad school here soon. I will be taking my GRE next month. Hopefully, I will have a PHD in sociology by the time I am 43? I suppose I am growing up..... finally. However, my first few years after highschool, I took a different path. It was a long, windy road, but I have learned much about life and have lived and experienced different perspectives. I am now 100% vegan and love good vegan food. Besides getting bent out of shape about humanity, injustices, and coorapate manipulation.........I like to hike, camp, canoe, read great fiction novels, stretch, do yoga, laugh, and as of late check vegweb everyday. ;D
My name is Catriona and I live in Scotland where the sun most definitely does not shine every day. I'm 51 and went back into education after being at home with my four girls for around 16 years. Before that I had been a midwife and before that a bilingual secretary (but couldn't cope with being stuck in a office all day). Having decided to go to college for a year to learn to use a computer properly, I forgot to stop learning and am now entering the third year of a PhD in contemporary economic history (don't let your eyes glaze over - I'm not going into details - I know it's only anoraks who like this stuff!!) It's focus is Germany so I have to travel there quite a lot for archival research - mainly Koblenz and Berlin but also Heidelberg and Aachen in the coming months. I must say though that since I found this site my workrate has dropped considerably - what a brilliant displacement activity. I am largely veggie (even vegan) though not quite all the way there. This diet though has helped me lose a lot of weight since January and absolutely painlessly too. I simply cannot believe how much better and healthier I feel as a consequence. I've long been a decryer of intensive livestock farming techniques and having read 'Not on the Label' and 'Plant Based Nutrition and Health' has simply transformed the way I feel about food, ethics and life in general.
I'm married to John, very happily, for the last 25 years and we sail - the boat is ours - when we can and I also enjoy kayaking and hill walking though latterly haven't done much of either, having damaged both left knee and left elbow - I am now fully expecting to go deaf in my left ear! Other pursuits when I get time are traditional music, choir, reading and socialising with a lovely bunch of mainly eccentric (but all the best people are) friends. Two rescue dogs - Bonnie (9) hyper-intelligent collie cross and Paddy (3) hound crossed with goodness knows what, not intelligent at all but full of love. He also has a considerable amount of neuroses owing to the bad treatment he received before he came to us - particularly about feet - not sure if we'll ever get him over that
