Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
Maybe I should stop lurking too :)
Greetings from Finland!
I'm almost 26 years old, and an almost graduated doctor by profession. I have a 2-year-old son and a husband who are both omni. I'm currently lacto-ovo-vegetarian, still trying to find my way. This place has been a big influence and a great source of information.
I'm just a girl living in Toronto, and have been an ovo-lacto vegetarian since high school. Currently, I study biology and feel much MUCH more boring in comparison to everyone else!!
My name is Doug. Im 40 this year, 243 lbs, 265 cholesterol, BP is around 140/90. I get tired alot. Especially after lunch. I also feel a bit dizzy if I wait too long to eat lunch. My dad has heart disease. My mom has high blood pressure. My wife is a Juice Plus+ distributor, which means she is very focused on health and wellness. Her job is to help people and educate them about their health. Primarily through eating naturally: fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, legumes, grains. You know, the opposite of what I have always loved!
I have slowly gained weight over the last 20 years. I remember the year of each benchmark..... 190 away at college, 200 on a 7 day cruise with Sharon, 210 at marriage, 220 as a school band director, 230 as a school administrator, 240 after taking a job at the church (what a great resteraunt though!).
Where does it end? I'm pretty sure it ends with me having diabetes and/or a heart attack. We just had our 3rd child. A girl....Emma. She may not get married for 25 years! I'll be 65 years old. My boys will be 32 and 33 at that time. I want to be there to see them. My wife is my best friend.....and sometimes she cries while she asks me to "please eat better." I'm her best friend too, and I know she is scared she will lose me and be alone for the last 20 years of her life.
For some reason i feel really confident this time dieting. I dont even see it as a diet. This is a changing point in my life. I am a vegan and feel better already.
I am focusing on mind, body, spirit.
Mind= developing my musical gifts to the next level. Im back to practicing drums, starting keyboard lessons, and have upgraded the recording studio. I also have been studying alot of leadership and business principles as I increasingly assist Sharon with the Juice Plus business.
Body= Im here at calorie king! immersing myself in my health. This IS my new hobby and passion. Its the only way I can do this. If it isnt my priority, it will go by the wayside. I am also starting back at LA Fitness. And Im scared! I hope God gives me a love for exercise. Or at least a strength to persevere through the torture.
Spirit= I am digging deeper into the bible with a focus on who God really want me to be. This IS a spiritual battle and I am putting on the "full armor of God" to win this battle. I will post post what God is showing me in future blogs.
So....off I go! It's gonna be a great day!
Congratulations Dougfresh! I enjoyed your article, it is very inspiring. I'm sure you'll find plenty of great recipes here that you'll enjoy. Welcome! :)
Welcome to VebWeb Doug. Kudos to you for taking your health into your own hands!!! Best of luck to you. I know you're going to notice a big difference in the months to come.
Why does your Myspace say you're 24???? Yeah right. LOL
Herro!
I just joined a few minutes ago!
I'm a massage therapist living in kick ass Portland, Oregon! I've been a vegetarian on and off for collectively about 7 years. I love where I live, but its almost too easy to eat out all the time, so I really want to learn some new cooking tips this winter, seems like that's when I get the chubbiest!
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
My name is Vivianne. I'm 37 from Ft. Collins, CO. Divorced twice and living with my sig. other. (He doesn't believe in forever) We have 4 cats (all rescued from former family members who would have them either put down or released into the wild where they couldn't survive.....thanks Dad. Long story LOL), 2 dogs, also rescued and 1 dove (who has been a little neurotic since her cockatiel mate died.)
I don't even remember how I found this site. I think it was through a search of a search etc....looking for a recipe. But that was only a few days ago. I just joined and I'm loving all aspects of this site!
I have been lacto-ovo vegetarian off and on for 8 years and completely so the last 4 years. In my "off" times I tried to convince myself that because I was with an omni partner I could get away with eating meat as long as it was from a local, organic and humane farm. Then I joined PETA again and realized that that excuse wasn't going to work anymore. Killing for killing's sake no matter how humane didn't make sense to me anymore.
Now, I have the greatest vegan intentions (being a biker chick I'm in the process of getting rid of all my leather....look for it on ebay! Or probably not, considering who I'm talking too! LOL) but cheese (cottage cheese in particular) is still my downfall. (Sigh) one of these days I'm sure I'll be able to overcome this but I am happy to do what I can, in whatever form I can to end animal suffering and rescue all the animals we are able to take care of.
Between my sig other and me we have over 30 rescues just on our block! Yay!
I'm happy to find this place and hopefully learn some new cooking stuff!

I'm an missionary kid living In Brazil....
Im 17 and a couple of months ago i became a full vegan
In august of 2005, i became a simple vegetarian, later taking out othe rthings( eggs, milk , fish) as time progressed. So, i may have been vegan for only a fe months.. but i got to tell y'll that i will never ever regret my decison or turn my back on it=)
Hello
I live just out of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. I'm 26, married to a primary music teacher and I work as an animal attendant for puppies and dogs at a place that offers natural therapies (massage, hydrotherapy rehab etc) and care for all breeds of dogs.
I was raised vegetarian (very lucky) and in recent years decided that dairy was not for me and am now a happy vegan. This site helps me cope with living in a community that looks down upon this way of living. I love the feedback on recipes and that it is all light hearted.
I have felt a great sense of isolation being raised veg and have found of comfort knowing that there are other people in the world with compassionate values. I still do not have one friend here in oz that is vegan...crazy huh
Bxx
Greetings all! Well I finally signed up for an accout after a few years of recipe searches. I'm Kaitlan, turned 29 a few days ago (eek) and recently moved to the outskirts of Denver, Colorado. I don't work due to Lupus. I have been veg*n since I was 13 but one of my "genius" doctors told me that he thought if I were to eat moderate amounts of red meat I would see a huge difference in my illness...well he was horribly wrong...sent me into a 4 month flare that I am just now getting over and now I'm back on the veggie bandwagon happily. My partner and I have 4 furbabies...Loki the dog, Luna, Cami and Sage the kitties. All rescues. I look forward to getting to know all of you :)
Bright Blessings
Hello Everybody!
I'm Jess and I am 22. I have been on VegWeb for a little over a year now. I only just started getting into the posting and the chatting which I find to be SO FUN! I just moved to New York from Boston this past June. I am currently a grad student at NYU. I'm studying Early Childhood Education. I'll be a real live teacher by next September! Totally insane! I have been vegan for over a year and a half now. Sometimes I slip up and eat cheese, but I am really trying to work on that. Really! VegWeb is helping. It is hard having no veg*n friends! I decided to make the change after reading Eat to Live. It just seemed like the healthiest choice. What else? Well, I have a myspace that I share with a friend. You can add me if you want! And, feel free to send me an instant message if you see me on AIM. I am super friendly, I promise!

i told myself i wouldn't post here until i read everyone else's, so now i am finally posting!
my name is hannah and i currently reside in san luis obispo, ca (it's central ca coast). i study nutrition and am graduating in a matter of months, after which i plan to move and travel for a good chunk of time.
i initially became vegetarian a few years ago for sustainability/environmental reasons, went vegan about 6 months later for the same reasons plus health and i find myself becoming more enamored with animal rights on a daily basis. i've done a little bit with raw foods and though i don't think i ever want to be completely raw, i like a lot of my food to be raw, whole foods. i am very non-preachy about my diet but when people find out that i am vegan i calmly explain my many reasons and that it suits me. i find most people are more accepting and i can get the word and understanding out to more this way (nobody puts up an automatic wall before i can have a discussion with them). i also respect all different lifestyles (and not just talking about vegan vs. omni) because i have interacted with many different people throughout my life and i think everyone has some value and something that i can learn from (many disagree with this opinion, but this is what i feel).
i am super into sustainability/non-consumerism. i basically will not buy anything i do not need.
if anyone lives near me or would like to meet me on my journeys i would love to do so! you can email me: hnnah.espedal at gmail dot com.
also, if anyone knows of great vegan/health work opportunities(anywhere and at pretty much any level), i have pretty much decided i want to make or be around vegan food for a job... ha ha we'll see if that happens (but really, not to toot my own horn but i am pretty sure i am great at customer service, cooking, and management).
Hi all! I am a 24 year old vegetarian. Over the last 6 months I have been 90% vegan. no cheese, meat, or eggs except if its in a recipe that I didn't make. (example: my friend made chocolate chip cookies the other day... i had one... and she probably used butter)
Anyway, I attend FSU and I am studying Criminology. I love it. I was born and raised in the south and meat is the center of all plates. I have been a vegetarian for 10 years now and it gets easier and easier all the time. Vegweb has helped alot with inventive recipes and is making my transition to being vegan almost seamless. My boyfriend and all of my friends are so supportive of me and always try to incorporate vegan choices at potlucks and meals. I only have 1 vegetarian friend that I can think of. . . but still I am such a lucky person.
My hobbies are hiking, rock climbing, the beach, shopping (my weakness), my health, recipes (i read cookbooks like novels... weird, i know), cooking for others, and fashion magazines (another weakness).

Hey Itch! (Nice handle btw), I read cookbooks like novels too! It gets me in trouble when I try to remember or recreate things though....they always end up as combos! While I've only been here a short while myself, I'd like to extend a hearty, "Welcome to vegweb!"
Hello everybody! My name is Katie and I am a senior at Cornell University studying environmental engineering. I am not entirely sure what I want to do next in life, and my post-graduation plans change daily. I don't sweat my indecisiveness, though. It's exciting to have so many different options in life! What I do know is that I have lived in upstate New York for my entire life, and I am ready for a change of scenery :)
I have been a vegetarian for practically my entire life. When I was very little, I avoided many types of meat simply because I did not like the taste. But as I grew older, I realized that there were so many reasons to be a vegetarian, and my distaste morphed into conviction. I became a full-fledged vegan a few months ago when a vegan friend sparked my curiosity. I realized it just didn't make sense for me to support the egg and dairy industries any longer. I absolutely love my new vegan diet! The only place where it poses a challenge is in the cooking class I enrolled in for fun this semester. Needless to say, the recipes and I don't get along very well :-\ I just do my best to focus on improving my cooking skills so I can become an even better vegan chef! Fortunately, my town is pretty "green" and embraces veg*nism, so I always seem to have lots of dining options. Nearly all of my friends think my going vegan is pretty nifty (though the words "I just know I could never do that!" come up all too often), and they're always reading labels for me and thinking of ways to alter recipes when we eat together, which makes me happy! And my mom just sent me a vegan cookbook, which rocks ;D
I love to work out (spinning class is my favorite!), and I am training to run a marathon by the end of May. I dabble in arts and crafts of all kinds, and I love writing, reading, and making gifts for people. I also really love tea. My best friend from home and I invented a "tea exchange" where we scout out interesting flavors and mail them to each other along with a letter. It's great fun, I highly recommend it :)
I pretty much depend on Vegweb for my daily meals, and grocery shopping has become a highlight of my week, haha.
Rock on, my fellow veggies!
Katie
(AIM me! SaucyMinx86)
Wow Katie!! So nice to meet you! We have a lot in common. My degree is in Civil Engineering & I took a focus in Environmental Engineering. Now I work for a consulting company in their Water Resources Group. Most of the work I do is for drinking water systems, but I do occansionally get involved in Wastewater and surface water projects.
I also enjoy running, right now I'm mostly into trail running and decided I prefer the half marathon distance over the full marathon. I recently completed my first Triathlon. What Marathon are you training for? Looking forward to chatting with you more! Welcome to VegWeb!
I have lived in upstate New York for my entire life
Another upstate vegan! YAY!!!

Holler :D
"Upstate Vegans Take Over the World"...the lesser known companion to Isa Moskowitz's "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World".....
Perhaps we upstate vegans should take over the world WITH vegan cupcakes.
That would rock.
;D
Ok, for the upstate vegans. I was driving back to school from my internship in Troy today and was absolutly starving! I really wanted to stop someplace and sit down and eat some good food. The problem is, the only places in Albany or the Capital/Upstate region I know that are quick to get some vegan food are El Loco and Bomber's (their vegan burritos and tofu fries are AMAZING!). However, over the summer I went to these two places WAY too often. I am looking for something different and was wondering if any of you knew of any others? I know there's one someplace on Lark St. I haven't been to and really didn't feel like driving around to find it today.
Thanks!
