Vegan WIN

So. My omnivorous husband is a construction worker/builder's apprentice. And the other day he said him and some of the 'guys' got talking about food, he let slip his wife is vegan, cue: "so what, that's like, just salad and shit?" at which point he gears up and explains the huge variety of hearty, delicious, varied, tasty and filling food I make, and points out we barely ever even have lettuce in the house, and that we eat a lot more interesting food than any of them.

I call that a vegan win.

Share yours....

hehe, thanks all : )

new one!

we had a 21st to go to on Saturday, one of my husband's best friends' youngest brother.  He decided to go over ~ 7 hours early to hang out and wasn't planning on taking anything to contribute to the fact that he'd be eating their food all day so I quickly made some VWAV chocolate chip cookies for him to take just before he left.  I literally took them straight out of the oven and put them in a container as he walked out the door.

when I turned up in the evening

*I was accosted by the birthday boy as soon as I arrived wanting to know what the 'secret ingredient' was because they were so freakin' good, he was also dumbfounded at the idea that there could be cookies with no butter and no eggs, and had no idea vegan baking could possibly taste good.

*The mother of the guy who was hosting the party demanded the recipe, and I later heard when she tried one she actually had to sit down because it exceeded her expectations so much haha

*we all met the new girlfriend of one of my husband's mates for the first time, and she apparently already knew me by reputation because the mate had been raving to her completely out of context about the vegan brunch cinnamon rolls I made for them a month or so ago.

haha VEGAN BAKING TAKING OVER THE WORLDDDDDDD!  : )

I'm not sure if this is a "vegan win" but I think it is.

My mom, my sister and I went out for lunch today. I decided to make my meal vegan. Usually anytime I mention vegan to my mom, she acts like someone just punched her in the face. She's ok with me being vegetarian but I still get the stink eye ( ??? ) when I mention vegan. Today she asked me about my baby steps into my vegan journey and she was actually very cool about it...almost supportive. Woot!

definitely a win, pm, getting family/friends to be more open towards/supportive of your vegan choices is a great step : )

on that note, my mum has not always been too aware/concerned with 'vegan' things
Anyway, my parents went out for dinner on Saturday night and she told me yesterday that there was a vegan option on the main menu and she thought that was great! hehe, awareness win! : )

my friend, who made fun of me every single day for being a vegan and never gave it a rest, posted this on my wall today:

After being a vegetarian for the last 5 months, and watching the documentary "Food Inc." today, I now understand your motives, and why you decided to become vegan. The fact that you can do what you do makes you an incredible person. And I can tell you this after not eating a single piece of meat in the last 5 months, I don't think I could ever eat it again. We will see what happens when I make it to my one year goal. Hope all is well. God Bless you, I miss you, and see you soon!

I normally don't watch any morning tv, but my baby likes to grab the remote and he managed to turn it on.  It was on The Circle, which is a crappy morning show that's kind of like Regis and Kelly or something.  Anyway, they were doing a cooking segment and the guest chef was making a vegan chocolate avocado mousse with raspberry (cashew) cream.  It was a pretty complicated recipe and I'm not sure how many people would actually make it, but yay for having a vegan cooking segment on national tv.  They kept talking about how it was a healthier alternative to normal egg and cream filled mousse, so maybe some people will be motivated enough to try it.

Here's the recipe if anyone is interested: http://ten.com.au/the-circle-chocolate-avocado-mousse-with-raspberry-cream.htm

If you do, let me know how it turns out.  I think it looks really good too, but probably more complicated than the average person would be willing to attempt.  Especially since it uses a few "weird" ingredients.

kinda long winded story, but I think it's pretty awesome:

I missed my chiropractic appointment last week so my husband came with me on Saturday morning on our way to do our grocery shopping.  While waiting we were chatting to the receptionists, standard 'what are you doing today' stuff and we said we were about to go food shopping.
Supermarkets here periodically give out 20c/litre petrol discount vouchers when you spend over $200.  This weekend was one such time and the receptionist mentioned it but we told her we never get them because we'd never spend that much.
Both of the women who were working looked a bit shocked, one said she always spends over $350

____

I can't fathom what amount of crap you would need to buy to spend that much!
____

while I had my appointment they kept chatting to my husband about food- 'what could you possibly get for only $60!?' etc.  One of them said 'oh but you guys are vegetarian, aren't you?' and then asked whether he felt that food was sustaining enough for him.  He calmly said our vegan diet is more than enough to keep him exercising seven days a week and building nine hours a day five days a week and I think that shut them up.

____

Today, my mum had been down there and called me up to say one of the women was so impressed with the fact that he looked so healthy/fit on a vegetable food diet that she's still talking about it...
